I mean, yes, gacha games suck, but there's a difference between ones you can do ok for free and ones where you have to pay. I enjoyed Avengers Academy for ages and yet I would definitely call myself someone who hates micro-transaction and gacha games.

Not more misogynistic, but it comes out in different ways.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-15 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Genshin can also easily be beaten without paying.

None from the top of my head but I remember sharing some (non-controversial or bigoted) thoughts that I thought were *gasp* absurd, or would cause a lot of fandom wank and seeing a lot of people agreeing, it was very... nice.

This. It's not about being turned on by gore. It's the double standard of "sexual stuff affects reality but violent stuff somehow doesn't". Of course they would be as appalled at someone being into guro or having the hots for fictional murderers. Because that's sexual and sex is bad in their puritanical minds. While most of them (saying most because there actually are a few that do this) don't at the same time believe consuming crime or violent media makes you a murderer irl.

N.K. Jemisin wrote something the other day about how actual racism can work like that. E.g. the idea that the cops just had to shoot that fleeing black man seventeen times, because black men are just so strong and powerful and frightening. Can’t find the post now, for some reason.

Eh, Zootopia wasn’t really about innate powers. The “feral” creatures don’t use things like instinctive ambush hunting tactics. They just lash out mindlessly, in the same way a drugged-up human can.

hmm, im not sure where you got the idea that I was talking about "innate" powers (either innateness or powers as such), but I'm not. The conflict is about relative vulnerability (or strength), which can be reduced to "power", as my example of the boxer is meant to demonstrate.

;). I can't take credit, it's from the greatest secret ever posted here - the tar season Thor secret. Will try and find the link.

I can't stand Astolat's Starry fics. They're so painfully American.

This has happened a couple of times for me too. It's a weird but welcome experience.

I just meant that an untrained combatant isn’t necessarily “powerful” in the Zootopia universe. There’s relative threat levels with sizes (a pissed-off elephant could probably do some real damage), but it doesn’t seem like a carnivore has an inherent advantage over a same-size herbivore. (And even a rabbit can take a divot out of someone’s arm.)

The secret is still up on imgr, here's the link direct to that:

But those are different things? Black men aren't inherently more powerful than white men for real, that's a myth that's just part of the racism. The fictional races this secret and thread are talking about really do have inherent dangerous advantages over their oppressors.

I think most people who like unhealthy relationships are aware they're unhealthy and that's why they like them. Especially if the player character is your self insert, it's all about how interesting the romantic partner is as a character, and the idea that you could "heal" them is appealing. Playing out a well adjusted functional relationship with a nice person in a work of fiction can be hella dull.

"Most antis don’t have an issue with dark content. They have an issue with people kinking on or romanticizing dark content."

But that's exactly what proshippers say is hypocritical. Anything is fine, as long as it isn't made into a kink. Kink is what makes people lose their morality and start copying fiction, that's the anti position. Antis also insist the difference is that violence isn't portrayed positively unlike kink, which is patently hilariously untrue, and it takes a lot of hypocrisy not to realize how "heroic" characters are portrayed as unambiguously good while committing violence in mainstream media.

this. what original commenter might be picking up on is people complaining about gay men thinking they are exempt from misogyny because they're not attracted to women?

Some of us are firmly in the dominant bottom/submissive top with the top being inexperienced and overstimulated and loving it. XD

The dichotomy in Zootopia (however muddied and nonsensical, this is distinctly stated), is not carnivore and herbivore, but "predator" and "prey" which isn't the same category at all. Elephants are not prey animals for the exact reason you mentioned. "Predators" do have advantages over their "prey".....that's part of the distinction, and thus a significant difference in vulnerability which I don't think it's reasonable to suggest "prey" animals forget in the name of community.

Tho, part of my problem is the downplaying of both specificity of that predator-prey relationship and the way they develop the ~prejudice~ in a way that isn't really born out by the environment they've created or the knowledge they are expecting the audience to bring with them (like the idea that prey animals are all herbivores and herbivores are all prey animals which is false), yes also.

I assumed the movie was just mocking the idea that impoverished young black men were “super predators”: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superpredator_theory

Thank you SecretMaker!

OP

Yeah, definitely. I started watching it, and got like three other people to watch it/binge it with me. Of course, none of us is the target (maybe i am since I grew up on Kenny Ortega stuff lol and one ep was definitely HSM-esque, not to mention "Bobcats" lol), but we're drawn in by the concepts and themes. It's so cute!

Oooo! Do you have any favorites or recs? It's such a cute show!
