171. For some, it's not about the art. :/

[identity profile] anthraxpretzels.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's about the 'history?' Or is it the 'brilliant writing' and 'side-splitting humor' or 'accurate characterizations'?

You...you are aware that "gaol" is a legitimate and prevalent synonym for jail, right?

In most (all?) Englishes except for American English, yeah. Which is probably what the OP was getting at.

Side scrollers are the only games I'm any good at. XD All your newfangled RPGs and first/third/what?person shooters, etc. are fun, but I'm terrible at them.

168

Oh, excellent. More ZOMG THIS ACTRESS IS SO ANNNNOOOOOOOOYING misogyny bollocks. Just what fandom needs.

Go, Annie! You are entirely awesome and just as important as the two people the OP apparently wants to fuck.

Misogyny bollocks, exactly!

118. ...This is relevant to my interests.

120. Nah, it's perfectly possible to hit your stride later in your fandom career. That's aided especially by the fact that new fandoms are constantly coming into existence; maybe you'll be exceptionally inspired by the big hit TV show/video game/anime/book series of 2017.

121. Meta can be fun in a lot of ways, but I have to say, I spent a little time over there in the past couple of days, and it kind of made me want to scream. So... I mostly agree. Yes.

135. You're definitely not alone. I'm sometimes horrified at how much I know about kinky practices (and how much I enjoy them...)

155. I hear you 100%. There's a balance there, a line that should be pointed out. There's a difference between writing a character that is traditionally feminine and shown to have her own strengths, and a character who displays those typically masculine strengths being turned into a housewife because that's apparently a woman's place. There's a difference between a show with interesting, complex, traditionally feminine women amongst a range of different types with different strengths and values, and a show where all the women are displayed as a male ideal of traditional femininity and reduced to passivity.

You put it better in your secret; I just agreed a bunch and thus felt the need to write a bunch. :B

157. Oh, don't worry about it. We love you, whoever you are!

160. I like them because a lot of them are still challenging to this day, and I find most new platformers way too easy. But some of them *coughsuperghoulsandghostscough* kick my ass too hard for them to be any fun. No one wants to play a game that isn't fun!

167. Find an native English-speaking friend to beta for you! Just get someone you trust to proofread a little so you don't have to worry so much.

173. I find them incredibly similar, except Phoenix's attitude tended toward "resigned to the crazy," and Apollo's tends toward "annoyed by the crazy." Also Apollo seems a little more professional lawyer-wise than Phoenix ever did, but I like them both.

OP: 157

Haha. Thank you. :)

You, and about 16 million other Ghostbuster fans.

Hell, it's been played with on the TV show.

113. Yeah, I can see it. Also, I feel the same way about Shawn and Patrick Jane from The Mentalist. (And as an aside, someone's written a Shawn=Jane story already. Someone needs to write yours, too! I'd read it.)

168. Aw, she's not so bad. Aidan, however. D: I miss Guy. I miss him so much. Fail, BBC, for letting everyone's options drop and having to recast. DDD: However, the show itself is freaking awesome. Yay for more secrets!

Oh god, that's hilarious. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing the same thing when I go to D.C. this summer. "Hey, there's the Capitol Building. I totally got my ass kicked by the Super Human Behemoth in there!"

146. I've never played video games that are set in places like that, but now I kind of want to, just so I can have that experience. :D I already know I'll make remarks like "That's where so-and-so did such-and-such," and only remember afterwards that it was in a movie. :D

161. I don't get the joke with the pictures, but I agree that the fic's not my favorite. I liked the premise, but the longer it went on the more weird I found it.

174. In my defense, I had no idea that was one of his (saw it back before I paid any attention to directors). But yeah... I still have friggin' nightmares from that scene where he's watching the birthday party on TV in the closet... UGH.

.......UGH! *grabs waterbottle* @__@

Ahem, I went to my first con in 1974. Been to a couple of World Cons, dozens of small comic book cons, local s/f cons, a few regional annuals, etc etc.

I read and write fan fic, met a number of actors from severral shows, authors, comic book people, etc etc. Even was part of a group of friends that poked one artist to become a pro.

All that you complete about? Has been there since before I started going to cons. Yes, even slashers. Started big time with Star Trek.

So chill out. Let the kids play. That much variety is good in fandom. Makes it interesting. And, yes, one of two terms meaning a multitude of fans is fen and the other is fans. Just like filk songs are science fiction folk songs.

113. Has there been Shawn vs. Dexter fic yet? There fucking needs to be. I used to consider writing it back when I was in the fandoms. Never got around to it. But it needs to be done.

138. OMG I FUKKEN LOVE OF MONTREAL AND THAT SONG ESPECIALLY. :jams: tho you bathe me way more than you should/and it's just like you to hurt me when I'm feelin' good!

160. E-even Super Metroid?!

160 OP

160. I actually haven't played Super Metroid. Samus is my favorite character to play as in SSB though, so it get's points in my book.

168.

I... dont think im surprised, Im a bit disappointed that fandom lives up the the stereotype, AGAIN.

[identity profile] loveotter.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
161. I thought it had promise to start with, and there's some good moments throughout, but overall it just gets kind of...weird and overly muddled down in plot points that don't really make any sense to me. I lost interest.

175. Oh my god shut uuuuuup. Why am I willing to bet twenty bucks that if Eve was a boy robot this thought would never have crossed your mind? As someone else said you just described about 80% of male movie heroes.

174: I don't think this needs to be a secret. Signs was the only movie by him that I really liked or thought was scary too. Six Sense put me to sleep and all his others have been down right ridiculous.

175: I thought the whole movie was a poor rip off of other stuff. Honestly I didn't understand why anybody liked it.
