The whole thing with the tiger in the news here in Texas has brought back up how much I'm annoyed by/hate people who keep wild animals as pets.

And people in general who have animals they don't understand, can't care for properly, refuse to learn how to care for, and expect to cater to them and dump them/abuse them when they find out they are a living being with their own needs and personality.

Also, I've gotten multiple robo calls from the local police union in the past week. Specifically asking for me by name. And it is a robot on the phone, so I can't make it clear to them that I'm among the last people they should be looking for money/support from. I'm already pissed that the change to local laws that would have allowed more oversight over the employment contracts of the police so that the public can make sure they are being fired when necessary and not just moved around because the union-designed contracts don't allow for discipline didn't pass in the last election here. And yet these messages are claiming that things are rough for the police in San Antonio right now. Really? Really?

People who don't put any thinking into getting a pet, or research their pets before they get them piss me off so much. It's insane how many animals are being returned to shelters after previously being adopted over the pandemic.

Agreed. Those people are just really selfish. Yes, a pet can be a huge good thing in your life, but it should be a two-way street. You should find a pet that you are as good for as they are for you. And then you should care for them and love them and spoil them. We domesticated them. When we take them into our homes, we have a responsibility to them. They are living beings with their own needs, and because they are domesticated it is up to us to provide those things for them.

I keep getting calls from cops asking for money who aren't even local cops, they're usually from another state.

Robocalls that purport to be from the police union are scams.

Okay, that's not new. But I kind of hate how the CDC relaxed mask guidelines for vaxxed folks and want to rely on the honor system when it's clear a lot of folks have shit for honor. Also, I liked how quiet it was during the pandemic, even though the elephants upstairs (in that they are stompers, not necessarily politically right-leaning) don't seem to know how to be gentle with their floors. But now everyone's getting bolder and inviting all their friends over and now I get stomps AND loud voices. Obviously, I won't say anything since they aren't breaking rules and everyone has a right to socialize. But... ugh. I wish I could afford my own house. (At least I probably wouldn't see so many fucking bugs too.)

I feel you and that sucks. It's actually had the opposite effect for me. The super loud neighbors next door are going out to do their loud music and shouting at 2am instead of on the other side of the wall from me. (I think they have also been getting penalties from everyone complaining about them but hey, whatever gets them to keep their loud music and terrible singing away)

We have someone visiting from one our plants and my supervisor set him up in my office. He is always loudly talking on the phone and trying to talk to me. I just want to be left alone with my podcasts. -___-

People who insist that all villains should be redeemable. Don't get me wrong, I love a good redemption arc for a villain, but also give me the villains who are so convinced that their cause is righteous that they don't care what they have to do to achieve it, or the amoral villains who know damn well that what they're doing is wrong but just plain don't care. There are places for both kinds and fiction NEEDS both kinds of villains.

Brought to you by the writers of one of my canons saying flat-out that a particular villain is irredeemable and deliberately written to be that way and people throwing a fit over it. Because how dare they write a villain who can't be woobified, I guess.

I agree. I'm a whore for redemption stories but I know when the story makes it clear the villain doesn't want to be saved and doesn't give a fuck. This is one of the things I enjoy about Suikoden 2.

This villain is pretty much exactly like that: they're a terrible person who enjoys seeing the suffering of others. They know they're awful and they simply don't care. The devs had them killed off and justified it by saying that it would twist their character too much to have them live and join the good guys (which is what has happened with the other villains we've had so far), and you know what? I completely respect that. Let them be awful and irredeemable to the very end. I would much rather they die in a way that stays true to their character than have to suffer through a ham-fisted redemption arc when it was very clear that the character in question had neither the desire to change nor any intentions of changing.

Oh word anon. I absolutely love villains and love to watch them be their terrible selves, but Christ not every villain can or should be redeemed. It's just not going to work in every story and that's more than fine with me.

I agree in theory (variety is better, redemption for everyone all the time is dull) but a writer calling a specific character irredeemable is a red flag for a lot of people nowadays because it does carry unfortunate implications. Do they mean irredeemable as in they will definitely not be redeemed as written? Fine. But do they mean from a realistic venue, this character as a person is too evil to even have the potential for redemption? Because that's not a thing, and it's a very closed-minded and authoritarian way of thinking to believe there's a point of no return for redemption potential.

In fiction, too, any character can be believably redeemed in a well-written AU. If the writer thinks that's OOC, I don't trust them.

ehhhhhh i disagree. as nice as it is to believe that everyone has the potential to change, in reality that simply isn't true. there are plenty of people who have gone to their graves being the same horrible people they were their entire lives, and not for a lack of people around them trying to persuade them to change. look at the people who commit brutal, awful crimes and never once show an ounce of remorse for what they've done.

some people just aren't capable of change.

Realistically speaking? I mean... some people in real life really are irredeemable, and I'm the first person who WOULD try to redeem a villain in fic. Some horrible people in life are deeply set in their patterns by the time they are adults and will never change, either because they lack self-awareness, or are just fine with the situation and have no need to change it. Even if there is a spark of awareness there, the most you can hope for is maybe they cut back on their shit for a while. A partial redemption at the most, and that's assuming they feel the need to work at it everyday. But don't look for someone that hard to turn around completely or suddenly, because that is like chasing a unicorn. If it happens, great, but it's damn rare.

My neighborhood friends and I had a good thing going with the gyms in Pokemon Go - there are two in the park (and two others nearby), so every night we'd make sure that Valor (their team) had one, and Mystic (my team) had the other, and then sometime during the next day, we'd swap, so we all got 50 coins per day.

Lately a bunch of new folks from all three teams showed up and feel like they have to take every gym in the area, no matter whether someone else just put their defender in 10 minutes ago. We've even run into some of them while playing, and asked the people of our own teams not to do that, let everyone stay in the gyms long enough to get their daily coins. They don't care and just keep taking every gym in the area.

It's not against the game's rules or anything, but we had such a good thing going when it was just a handful of us regularly playing over there and cooperating rather than competing. :/

Ugh, I've had that same issue a while ago. Talking didnt help so I just annoyed the hell out of them and kicked them out as soon as possible, sometimes making them miss their coins on purpose. It's gotten better since then. (We're both lucky/cursed bc we can reach some gyms from home)

Not enough sleep, rodents in my house, the CDC for giving cover to maskholes.

Less annoyance and more worry but I heard a hawk doing it's "this is my dinner I'm eating" noise and the phoebe incubating the second brood of the season outside my back door is missing. Hoping she's just hiding and will be back on her unhatched eggs tomorrow.

Oh no! Please keep us updated about the phoebe. ;3;
