Tbf, I really love slow burns, but mostly in fic. In published fic, movies, shows, I think I'm a bit similar to you -- yes pine, get to know each other some, have your reservations, etc. But live! Take the risk! Let's not have the seven year engagement situation.

As long as the drawn outness of the slow burn is <50% caused by miscommunication, I'm good to go on it.

Yup. I don't want instant romance. I want the romance to develop in a believable way, which takes time. I don't believe in instant love. Getting to know each other is a process. But I also want the romance to happen in a believable amount of time. When a piece of media keeps throwing unbelievable obstacles in the way over and over again, I get frustrated. And to me, I don't need "will they, won't they." A romance on the show or book or movie can totally work and still keep things interesting.

Yeah I agree. I've developed a big mistrust for slow burn fics because of the 'getting together at the very last minute' endings. One fic I had read had loads of cliffhangers at the end of every other chapter that was driving me up the wall between updates - and when the pair finally got together 40 chapters later, they just held hands and the fic ended right there with a filmsy 'who knows what tomorrow brings!'
I have always promised myself to never flame fics like preteen me did in the early 2000s on ffnet - but my god I was so very close to writing the rant of a lifetime at the end of that one.

Fry is an ass but he was good at his job. At least until it got stale in later seasons.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I never liked QI until I fell in love with Sandi's run. Now I can even watch clips from Stephen's run, though I don't like watching whole episodes from back then. I just don't like Stephen Fry in large doses.

Thank you for making my secret!

The first live action adaptation of a BL manga I saw was for Seven Days, which was pretty good. Anything else I've tried has basically turned me off live action BL adaptations, so I feel your pain, OP.

#5 isn't showing up?

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know if anyone else has this issue, but I don't see an image for #5, and even clicking on the link down in the comments doesn't seem to result in anything.

I've got mixed feelings. Sandi is nicer, and funny. Sometimes Stephen could be insufferable, but I thought was balanced out by the guests who had the wit to keep him humble - especially Phil Jupitus. But... IMO, QI was funnier overall in the earlier seasons because it was fresher.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same about most manga adaptations, except I did enjoy the Bride of the Water God drama and the Goblin King one too.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah, I am a little sorry for the other actor even with my great disappointment.

The article really emphasized Henry Golding's presence and left the actual Wentworth last.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I was disappointed, too! I thought for sure he'd be Wentworth. :-/ That said, the overall casting and general buzz I've heard about this adaptation doesn't sound like it's going to be my cup of tea, anyway.

SA as above - I see it now!

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)

Yep. I don't like it when the romance is drawn out over several seasons for nonsensical reasons when it's clear from the get-go that the ship is going to be endgame anyway.

For all its flaws, I really liked how Shadowhunters did the Malec relationship, for example. There was the will they/won't they in the first season and afterwards they got together and the relationship was even largely bullshit free (for Shadowhunters).

It's funny to me that you're specifically mentioning Phil Jupitus because he's one of my favourite guests in Sandi's run. He has such great rapport with Sandi.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
British panel shows should have a statutory limit of 15 series or so.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so torn about this ship. In theory, I don't mind enemies to friends romances, but they're so rarely handled well. I didn't really enjoy the journey in the books, though I appreciated them as a couple in the end, if that makes any sense? I just didn't like how it got there. I'm kind of wary of the idea that you can support and live a hateful, murdering ideology that basically amounts to genocide, but one person can change your mind after you fall in lust/love with them. That feels... icky. Not romantic.Like ohhh, I was okay with burning people live because I viewed them as subhuman, but because we went through some hardships together and you're hot, you've changed my mind about murdering innocent people! Yay?

The guy that plays Matthias is hot, though.

Phil is just great, period. :)

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, I love Phil Jupitus. He was always one of my favorite guests on QI.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Anne's description wasn't promising for how the movie would handle the adaptation yep - but I would definitely have watched it he was Wentworth.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
He has such great rapport with everyone! But he really seemed to enjoy teasing Stephen, and he did it very well.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-26 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the impression they were going to go for a more modern interpretation and... that's just not what interests me. Especially if they're going to alter Anne's personality to do it.

Weekend Plans?

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2021-06-26 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Missed it last night!

So what did everyone do today and what do you plan on doing tomorrow?

Today I went to get my TSA precheck application done. It took like ten minutes. Then I sent shopping for some new foundation. I have also been doing the Bug Off on Animal Crossing. Tonight we are doing to watch a movie and eat some Thai food.

Tomorrow I'll be driving home.
