Huh, I thought it was just me! I agree on the exceptions, though in the case of Gladiator, a lot of that was Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance. Academy rules meant that only Zimmer got the Oscar but he did acknowledge her and try to get the rules changed, so I respect that.

He's done some good shit too but the way people praise him as a movie score genius and a legend is like lol no.

It is rather hilarious seeing how 99% of musicians in any genre are treated realistically, as in "everyone has an off track/album/show it happens not everything is gold," and then there's that 1% who are either gods of music or complete shit and have their camps and stans and detractors...

I don't know where I'm going with this, just an observation. How many classical composers, soundtrack composers, songwriters, etc are ever perfect every time? Not even John Williams. So Zimmer, and Elfman, and anyone else, should be viewed the same. Musicians sometimes don't quite hit the mark and that's okay.

I've seen quite a few movies with him as composer. Some were movies I didn't enjoy (some were bad, but some just weren't for me), so I put them in the not-important category in my memory and only have vague recollections of the music, so I can't really say if the scores took away from anything (Bird on a Wire, Calendar Girl, I'll Do Anything, Nine Months, Something to Talk About, Broken Arrow, The Peacemaker, As Good as It Gets, Chill Factor, Mission: Impossible 2, and Pearl Harbor). Some were movies that I did enjoy, but I was pretty indifferent to the music (Rain Man, Days of Thunder, Green Card, Backdraft, Thelma & Louise, Regarding Henry, Point of No Return, True Romance, Cool Runnings, The Rock, Black Hawk Down, King Arthur (2004), Sherlock Holmes (2009), and Woman in Gold ). But there were a few movies that I did enjoy where I liked the music, but that weren't included in the ones you mentioned (Twister, A League of Their Own, The Holiday, Inception, and Hidden Figures).

Hans Zimmer didn't even compose the music for the first POTC movie. He did the following ones but used many of the same themes which were composed by Klaus Badelt. but for some reason he still gets all the credit....

I largely agree with this secret, but I really just want to talk about how good the Spirit Stallion of the Cimmaron score is. One of his best works and completely overlooked.

It's funny, but this dislike, *to me*, seems to be rather 'new', as in, only being brought to light in the last year or so.

I think he got 'too big', so to speak. His more recent scores, he doesn't really do himself anymore, his assistants have a larger hand in, while he gets the credit and I think that has been very detrimental in terms of like or dislike.

It's quite possible he's become *too* well known, *too* used in film scores, so people are tired of it, they want more choices. Not like that hasn't happened before, after all.

I do like his earlier scores. Recent years, not so much. The Dune one needed more bagpipes.

Listening to podcasts from that time makes me lol. In a sense of man, you have no idea what's coming, do you? Between pandemics and protests and everything else. Lmao. No idea, podcast host.

I had a similar feeling at the beginning of the pandemic lockdowns when listening to a silly lighthearted podcast from 2017 or something to that effect (maybe even 2015) and the host says something along the lines of "what am I supposed to do? Have some video date with my boyfriend? As we eat in two different restaurants? Who does that?" And i started cracking up -- because that's all we could do and there were no restaurants. Again, that wry feeling of you have no idea what's coming
