You said it in the Secrets thread as well. And just like there I am wondering where you are seeing some huge mass of people that liked how Luke was written in TLJ. The majority of fans hated it.

I don't know about the majority. AFAIK no one has done, like, representative polling. Certainly, it was divisive. But I also wonder if what OP means by "modern Star Wars fans" is "people who liked Luke's writing in TLJ", meaning by implication that only the ones who didn't like it are True Star Wars Fans.

Also, Luke's writing in TLJ was great.

That describes so much about fanfic characterization, IMO. I barely read fic anymore because I keep running into [Character name] who's really an OC who looks like [character] and shares [character's] name.

I think sometimes that’s overstated. Like with Jasper/Lapis shipping in Steven Universe. It requires a lot of change on Jasper’s part, but I don’t think it’s out of character. It’s just character growth.

It's always a matter of interpretation. Interpretation is a moving target and fanfiction, by definition, has to diverge from the canon character in some way just by virtue of the fact that it is created by fans and is not canon.

I don't like this phenomenon either personally, and I also don't like that one canon character who seemingly everyone decides to ship with their fave but they're, idk, too scared to write an OC (e.g. Darcy in the MCU a few years back).

But I do agree with the anon above a little in that I'm going to leave writers and their fans to it because it's fanfic and wish fulfilment. I just don't see the attraction to writing something that only superficially resembles the character(s) you claim to like and it is frustrating/disappointing when you see a good summary for a pairing you like, especially a pairing involving conflict, with tags that seem to hit some of your interests and then one of them is way too not really them for you to enjoy.

I get this, OP. When I'm at the worst of my depression I install the game, get the mods and play The Sims for 10 hours a day for days until my mind calms down. Then I just unistall it. And then the cycle begins again. My craving for The Sims is actually how I notice that my depression is getting worse. It's been like this for 20 years now!

What are your favorite titles in the franchise?
I love The Sims 2 and 3, but can't play 3 lately because my PC is too old.
