Re: Bad movies/tv with good soundtracks

Sherlock Holmes, the Zimmer sountrack was SO MUCH FUN that I watched that ridiculousness more than once in the cinema, about 70% motivated by the soundtrack.
[The remaining percent divides itself: 20% for the hotness, 10% for the slowmotion, and 0% for the plot/any resemblance to Doyle.]

Streets of Fire is... watchable for some and unwatchable for others. But the soundtrack? AMAZING.

She kind of comes off as some one who - although part of the fandom scene - is now someone who isn't like the 'WEIRD' fandom people because she's now much better than that. Also whenever she pops up on Tumblr with her own opinions that makes its rounds on reblog, she always comes off as a tourist loudly giving off that vibe despite still clearly being in fandom spaces.

Plus her new catch phrase whenever trans or lgbt issues come up "I'm a bi woman and the person writing this script is a trans woman" to justify their point of views rubs me the wrong way; its fine but it doesn't mean they're both above from ever being wrong which seems to be the intention they're aiming for (and in regards to the McElroys video; I can see why a trans woman can understand gender neutral/non-binary characters - but I wouldn't say she speaks for me as a non-binary person either).

Your second paragraph says it all. She doesn't know what she's talking about and she seems like she doesn't care as long as she gets views. Is it really "gatekeeping" to tell someone who doesn't know what they're talking about to stop talking about it as if they're an expert?

There's two distinct things here that you're fusing together: being a fan, and doing accurate research on the history of fandom and specific fandom history topics. What OP is saying is that it's legitimate to criticize her if she gets facts wrong about fandom history, or if she doesn't know what she's talking about. But that's not the same thing as not being in fandom, not being familiar with fandom, not belonging in fandom.

"she seems like she doesn't care as long as she gets views." - that's it exactly. I was thinking why she bugs me more than other people doing fandom deep dives/essays and that's exactly how she comes off as.

Re: Gay romance question sorta based on #7

The Donald Strachey mysteries are primarily mysteries, but over the course of the books, Don goes from being young and reckless and sleeping around, to having a stronger, faithful relationship with his partner. None of the books are romance focused, but I did like getting to see the romance evolve.

ngl I love the Marceline and Simon flashbacks, but yeah I love all the other lore before the mushroom war/aftermath too.

I hated Under the Skin but the OST is amazing. https://youtu.be/Z_Cc20I-maM

Diana Gabaldon's Lord John Grey series is historical mystery that features a gay male protagonist and romance, though it's not necessarily a traditionally happy ever after type of romance.

The Knight and the Necromancer by A.H. Lee. The summary sounds silly, but I quite liked the execution.

Flash Gordon. It is a fun film, but not a good film. The soundtrack, by Queen, is awesome though.

Her ongoing weight gain has made me a bit uncomfortable. It's odd considering her age. I hope she's okay.

A lot of 4Kids dubs are considered bad, but the music was almost always good.

Fucking seriously?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I just want a sci-fi show to give me back the excitement of watching Farscape. Serious and dark when it needs to be but also batshit space muppets and unapologetic weirdness.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
As a fellow 30-something, yeah :(
I'm mostly on Tumblr for fandom stuff, but because of the years when Tumblr was at its most toxic (and assuming everyone over 25 was a peddo), I've been really distant on there while posting my fanworks but not interacting with anyone. Although I do get nice comment in the tags from time to time, I'm wary of replying most of the time and just think about how different it was in the LJ days - and yes there was drama there too, it was still a less lonely experience compared to now.
I do really wonder if fandom spaces in the future are going to frizzle out or just revert back to sharing zines in the post or some equivalent.

jeez well at least you know your priorities :///

Ooooh, I used to use that as my essay-writing background noise! It had no lyrics, so it wasn't distracting, and it was upbeat enough to be energizing without turning into "noise".

The anime series Guilty Crown. It's probably my least favorite series that I've ever watched all the way through, and a big reason why I stuck around until the end (besides a feeling of 'I've already watched over half this shit show may as well finish it') was that the soundtrack was just so damn good. That show dod not deserve Hiroyuki Sawano or Supercell.

Nobody in the industry understands that we need camp.

We need a modern Elwood D. Wood Jr.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd settle for more Pigs in Space at this point.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Hello, troll. How do you feel about the trolling being done in the other secret's comments? What are your opinions on transphobic people?

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for explaining! - I've been seeing this meme go round for ages and was too afraid to ask what it meant.

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh thank fuck, I wasn’t the only one thinking this

(Also, I love this movie so much)

(Anonymous) 2022-02-16 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
This is really minor, but the original meme was about the a-10 plane. Lots of people said that the a-10 sucks and should be retired already, but fans replied that the plane's machine gun goes BRRRT. There was also a bunch of memes beforehand about the infamous machine gun noise (srsly the noise is worth checking on YouTube), but the a-10 goes BRRR was successful enough to escape context.
