Working and playing FFXIV probably more than I really ought to be (I am new and on the trial...here's to hoping nothing weird happens after tonight's updates). I also got some cleaning done ahead of an apartment maintenance visit. Now I am eating dinner.

sitting around at home because they are doing an inspection of the fire alarms in my apt bldg and I don't like people going into my apt when I'm not there. that and waiting for phone calls. whoop de shit, huh?

I gave myself a BabyFoot pedicure* this morning, and then polished my toenails. Thrilling Monday, lol. Later on I'm making homemade spaghetti, and I have a bottle of sparkling rosé to go with it, yay! I'll probably watch some TV tonight? Maybe read? Maybe drink rosé and stare at the yellow crescent moon?


*BabyFoot is a lactic/glycolic acid chemical peel in bootie form for seriously dry, crusty feet. You soak your feet in warm water for a half hour, then you dry them and put them into the plastic bags/booties that have lactic acid inside, tape them in place, and then wait anywhere from an hour to two, depending on how much dead skin there is to get rid of. When you're done you remove the booties and rinse and dry your feet. Within 3-7 days your feet will begin to peel and this process takes a few days (and is pretty gnarly looking, lol, there's lots of pics of this on Google), but when its done you have soft, new skin. The entire process takes about 2 weeks.

Apparently doing the work of three employees because one of my coworkers was expected to have his last day Friday (it was, and he BCCed the rest of the department an exit interview that was rather scathing towards everyone who WASN'T in our department because yeah, our org has some issues but my immediate coworkers are awesome), then just after I started work I had one of the only other two people left PM me and say that the other person just resigned. Other person was in charge of our social media accounts so my boss and I were scrambling all day to figure out how to get me access so I could handle them from now on, as well as people PMing me to do stuff that the guy who left Friday gave me a little training on last week, in addition to my usual stuff.

Also digging up very old emails from HR because in spite of/because of this absurdity, my boss went to talk to HR to clarify some points of my confusing job "upgrade" and PMed me intermittently because apparently HR asked him if I was interested in a full-time position. Which they have been denying me for years because I don't have an AA. I don't know if whoever asked him that is aware that I don't have the requisite AA. We're not going to tell her if she doesn't bring it up. :D

Work. Have a new detained client, and getting ICE to communicate with me is such a pain. They don't answer the phone, they won't tell me how to send them the form that identifies me as his attorney, they just generally are making this as difficult as possible.

And got the results of my back MRI. Not only do I have a bad herniation, but I also have arthritis at the bottom of my spine. Yay. So I've got a referral to a pain specialist.

Home sick from work, despite being cleared to return to work by HR because it's not covid (yay!) because I lost my voice yesterday and still sound like a badly reanimated mummy.

My body is finally slowing down the production of green goop (yay) which means my throat and chest have started itching (yuck.) What's with that, anyway? Healing tissue? Irritation from coughing? I have to stop myself from scratching like I've been fleabitten and it sucks.

I need to mask up and get groceries and do laundry, but I'm just sick enough still that I want to spend the rest of my last day off work passed out on the couch.

Based on the last time something like that happened, about 80% of the comm are cool with it, 3% think it's a hate crime, 10% try to have it both ways and end up getting yelled at and 7% are on the wrong side of the international date line to get involved in drama and/or don't give a fuck.

How long do you keep a fic in your "to be read" pile before giving up on reading it?

Depends how ill I am at the time and how much crap I'm being expected to field. :/

The shorter fics tend to get read first, of course, though the longer fics are more satisfying when I'm well.

Thanks for this reminder to clear out my "for later" queue on AO3. I have nearly 60 pages worth of fics lingering there, the oldest added in... 2015!? Time to at least remove the ones from fandoms I've lost interest in.

Here are a list of Western companies who refuse to condemn the Russian invasion, and are still operating in Russia so they can make money from selling their garbage food:

McDonald's, Coca Cola, KFC, Pepsi, Starbucks and Burger King

Please think twice tomorrow before buying anything from them.

Which is preferable- a few months of severe economic pressure on Russia as a whole that may lead to Putin backing the fuck off and Ukranians getting their country back? Or doing nothing?

Ukrainians are being shelled and civilians killed. That's definitely worse than unemployment.

As for inconveniencing average people- this war is having a global impact on energy and good costs at a time of global economic crisis. But yes, let's not worry about them.

The sooner this war ends, the better. Fast food chains pulling out of Russia is a fairly soft impact but still significant step. It's also reversible.
