Yeah IDK why game companies are like "you know what will make my game really immersive? Making the player look away from the screen every few minutes. That'll do it"

Just let us do/create everything we need within the game, even if it's not automatically given to us

People who play artificially difficult games get what they get. Aimlessly wandering around in an open world game gives players a sense of accomplishment when they finally get to their destination or whatever goofy shit FromSoft developers say.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
What games aren't artificially difficult?

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Most of them?

Making games that are unusually difficult because they're deliberately lacking many of the conveniences that most modern games include is this particular developer's entire thing.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
But whether you include the conveniences or not, it's an equally artificial level of difficulty, right? It's the result of the designer / developer making a conscious decision about how difficult they want to make the game.

You can run into a boss that's 20 levels more powerful than the player 10 minutes into the game if you take the wrong path or whatever in most games?

Now I am just remembering my friend trying to fight that one super powerful zeugle that's in the very beginning area of Tales of Arise. You don't even have to take the wrong path to get to it, it's just there hanging out right off the main path - and to be fair, it LOOKS like it will maul you if you get too close to it, but that doesn't stop a ton of players from trying anyway.

"Aimlessly wandering around in an open world game gives players a sense of accomplishment when they finally get to their destination or whatever goofy shit FromSoft developers say." ????

Did you confuse ER with Open World Ubisoft game #954845?

Putting aside the fact that there IS a map, and you can put down markers for things that look interesting to make it easier to go find them... This game has one of the most dense open world games I've ever seen in my life. I rarely went more than two minutes without stumbling into something to do/pick up/ explore.

If y'all wanna be contrarian at all costs at least try to be so by pointing out actual flaws in the game?

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah like... a lot of criticism I've seen for this game comes from people who haven't played it, never even watched other people play it and just parrot what they hear from others who also haven't played it.

the game....has a map though...? did you mean minimap op? bc there is a very detailed map of the overworld you can access through the simple press of a button, with waymarker points and markers you can put all over it at your leisure

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
i feel like people forget that minimaps are actually a relatively recent concept. the first game i remember playing that had a minimap was star ocean 4 and iirc that was 2009 or 2010?

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Eh? Plenty of RPGs had them in the 90s. I remember Suikoden had a minimap you could improve by getting a mapmaker.

pantswarrior: Gaming by candlelight equals romantic evening. (gamer)

Between this (yesss let me mark the map how I want to) and the above comment about being able to accidentally stumble across something 20 levels higher than your character... this kinda sounds like a game I would enjoy. I mean in old-school games that had weird secrets and glitches that let you access high-level difficulty areas early, or random encounters with something you were not supposed to be able to beat till the endgame, I always at least gave it a shot. Or if I stumbled into it and realized I was outclassed, I'd just be like "...whoooaaaaa hahaahahha wow, that was hilarious!"

(Yes I realize that different people enjoy different things about games and the possibility of randomly getting wiped is not a plus for many people.)

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Man, memories of beating the Midgar Zolom in disc 1 of FFVII and not realizing until much later that you... weren't actually supposed to kill it then and that I'd somehow pulled off something EXTREMELY difficult, LOL.

Oh. Then why were those people on Twitter refusing to buy it because they said it doesn’t have a map?

...So you really did not even touch the game at all before submitting this secret, huh

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Map aside (which the game has, just not a minimap) I just think the whole "it needs an easy mode to be accessible" rarely ever comes from people with actual accessibility issues, they're just salty it's too hard and they can't play the current hot new game as well as others.

I get intense migraines and motion sickness from playing first person games. I still don't demand every first person game should have an additional third person mode just because it would be more accessible to me and people with my issues. Would it be nice? Sure. Is it feasible to implement this? Not really. So I just have to deal with playing different games.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Genuine accessibility RARELY has anything do with an easy mode, it's things like having a colorblind mode so people can change the colors of items/indicators, subtitles for spoken dialogue, the ability to remap the control settings for accessible controllers, the ability to add visual cues for important sounds, the ability to adjust brightness and contrast, an option to just hold a button down for QTEs, adjusters for font size and text scrolling speed, etc. THOSE are the kind of things that make games accessible.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
“Genuine accessibility RARELY has anything do with an easy mode”

Rarely, but not never. Plenty of disabled people have posited their reasons for wanting a mode similar enough to easy mode to just make it easy mode. And the majority aren’t “demanding” anything, we’re just saying that it would be nice to participate in these games.

And then we get bombarded with “git gud” people, as if they have any idea what they’re talking about. Or in the case of one user here “I’ve seen one disabled person do something impressive in a game despite their disabilities, so obviously none of the rest of you are trying hard enough”. I’m paraphrasing, because I’d have to go back to the 2019 secrets to read exactly what they said, but that was the gist of it.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck off and don't speak for us

Signed, a genuinely disabled person who thinks difficulty modes should be standard in everything because your easy can still be my hard

FromSoft's stans need more personality traits than "FromSoft fan" I swear, they could tell you that guzzling real shit would make the game better and you'd do it

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
nah. if a developer wants their game to be played at a certain level of difficulty, that's their right because it's their piece of art. there are plenty of non-disabled people who struggle with certain games too, it's not like this is an abled versus disabled thing.

not every game needs to be for everyone and that's fine. it's not like there aren't literally thousands of other games out there to play.

signed, a fellow disabled person

(Anonymous) 2022-03-10 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Lol what a ray of sunshine you are. Where did I even say the games are easy? Also, you are equally not the only person with health restrictions that keep you from playing certain games and you, likewise, don't speak for everyone either.

I don't play FromSoft games because my patience and time for games that are designed to be frustrating is limited. I don't like Open World games because I keep losing my way even with maps. I have actual health issues that prevent me from playing certain types of games.

You know what I do? I don't curse and bitch at people on the internet for enjoying those games the way they are programmed. I go play games I do enjoy and am able to play instead. You will survive not playing a series of 4 games, I promise. Try playing one of the thousands of games that HAVE difficulty settings catering to you instead.
