I'm far from being a fandom newb or a child, but I have no idea how to torrent or pirate things either. I'm too afraid of fucking up my laptop with a virus.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I just hop on YouTube and hope someone’s uploaded what I wanna watch (and I find what I wanna watch most of the time).

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Dailymotion also has a lot of less than legal stuff for streaming.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
da

It's how I managed to finally finish the original Sailor Moon anime! Though that was years ago. Not sure it's still on there.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
I junked a laptop from torrenting once so I am completely reluctant to do that on my desktops in fear of doing that again. PCs aren’t cheap man and I’m not about to risk them for media.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Don't torrent. DC++

UBlock Origin, AdBlock Plus, run CCleaner occasionally and use Deluge (and a VPN if you're extra-worried about your provider). You're good.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
And just scan every file you download with MalwareBytes or something similar before you open it.

I don't do that, but I have never had an issue with anything I've download. It's all been clean. I use the 1337x.to site - very good!

Not saying that's not a good idea,though!

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Same, never quite got it and don't want viruses either. I can imagine lots of kids having trouble doing this too. I don't get OP's anger at all. It doesn't cost anything, if you have a link towards a streaming site or a google drive file to copy paste it, if you're willing to share, or to tell them politely to ask someone else, or to just ignore them if it's really bothering you that much. What's the issue there? Your reaction seems very excessive to me.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
This is a big concern for me, too, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also not a newb or a child, and have never torrented. I grew up on a farm and we just did not have the speed or data for it, so I never learned.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Surprising lack of concern about ethics of piracy ITT

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I always said that if I could actually watch the shows/movies in question in a timely fashion, I wouldn't pirate. I'm happy to pay. Along comes streaming, I can watch...about 50% of the shows, so I don't pirate them. Pretty straightforward.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Make it available legally and I'll watch it that way, but there's a lot of stuff that isn't available legally or that is only on physical media and I don't do physical media because I just plain don't have the space to buy DVDs for anything other than shows and movies I really, really love. The advent of streaming services cut my piracy by probably 85-90%.

Exactly!

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. Maybe it’s just the circles I run in but “where can I watch this?” always means “which of the too many streaming sites to keep track of did you watch this on?”
I haven’t torrented anything in about ten years. I used to do it for British shows that never got released in America but then I moved back to England for a few years and then moved back to America again and most things I’m interested in are legally available almost right away these days.

(Anonymous) 2022-03-30 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly.

I was reading the comments in reverse, like you do, and I've just seen that another anon used the same word as an answer. We're not the same person. They have more pazaze: they used an exclamation point.

I get you, this inability to "research" it themselves is just so baffling to me. I found my current up-to-date resources by googling "piracy reddit" and wouldn't you know, there is an entire subreddit with a massive masterpost detailing programs and sites to use. It's that simple.
Especially with streaming sites that have 0 chance of getting you in trouble (and if you use adblockers are perfectly navigatable) I don't understand how often I see people saying they're scared of "torrenting" shows. Well don't torrent shows, just watch them online!

I have been an avid pirate for around 15 years now and I've never had issues with malware either, I'm not a PC whiz I just use deductive reasoning when trying to determine whether an uploader is legit. Lots of popular torrents? No comments complaining that something is wrong? (Though false positives do happen)
There we go!

I always thought we were told how tech savvy anyone born from the late 1990s was, about how they grew up on the internet and didn't understand the world without it. Yet, they have all the advantages of so many avenues to find, watch, read things that us oldies never had at their age. Maybe that's why we're more resourceful and understand the concept of initiative rather than being spoonfed.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-03 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I’m a Gen X’er who’s not tech savvy at all, and who’s not the least bit resourceful, at least not when I don’t have to be now. I was only slightly resourceful back in the day because I had to be in order to know what they hell I was doing on the internet, using computers at all. But when it came to tough things to me like torrenting, coding websites, and using web rings, I was still following instructions others had helpfully laid out for others instead of being obnoxious elitists about simple questions.

And I don’t think most Gen Z’ers claim to be tech savvy. Just that they know how to work a cell phone or the internet better than some boomers or even older people, which is true. And it’s literally true that they’ve lived with the internet all their lives and didn’t understand the world without it? What kind of point are you trying to make with that? Like, they use those avenues we didn’t have all the time, so if you’re trying to say they take them for granted, that’s obviously not true.

So you’re acting kind of snotty with these generalizations, I’m not going to lie. Not all oldies from our generations are more resourceful or “understand the concept of initiative rather than being spoonfed”. Some of the people most demanding of everyone to spoonfeed them everything I’ve ever met have been around my age, and a little older or younger. Not to mention some Gen X’ers really hate being left out of things, and will loudly complain about it. Which is stupid because our whole thing is supposed to be that we’re left out of generation wars and we don’t care about that at all. And then there are the Gen X’ers who have a nasty boomer-like habit of taking every chance to extol the virtues of being Gen X, and how we’re so much better than Millennials and Gen Z’ers, especially because we didn’t have all the technological advances they did. And we’re so much more superior human beings with much better and more self-sufficient behavior supposedly because of that. You know, like what you’re doing and saying.

And not all Gen Z’ers have no initiative, need to be spoonfed everything, and demand answers from other people. Especially because questions are not demands, no matter how much OP, the anon above you, and of course you seem to think they are. And torrenting can be hard, I’ve never been great with it. So if there’s anything worth asking questions about, especially if Google isn’t giving the kind of answers you want, it’s torrenting.
