Why granny? What about this behavior is limited to older women?

(Anonymous) 2022-04-06 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm assuming it's since antis get associated with younger fans, the opposite with that logic would be older fans.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-06 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I assume they meant people who have been on the fandom for longer.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-06 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You're probably right. The anti fan of any gender vs. the old women specifically rubbed me the wrong way I suppose.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-06 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never seen this happen. I'm sure it exists, but it just sounds like such a weird thing for people to do.

I’m going to quote myself. People who want to keep newbies from changing their fandom are like men who try to come up with techniques for how to get sex from women without being shackled to women’s will. AO3 users are like people who have sex. No Mutants Allowed are incels.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
'Without being shackled to women's will'

That's some telling phrasing right there.

What.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I was part of a fandom like this, sort of. It was for a pairing that was relatively small, until new canon came out and then more people jumped onboard. Including myself.

OMG, the whining from the more 'established' fans who'd been shipping it longer about how people were writing fic wrong, how they didn't get the characters, etc. They were actually happy when they noticed people leaving the fandom! Even if that would mean fewer fanworks, discussion, whatnot, because those new fans weren't true fans anyway.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, that sounds awful! I really hate it when asshole try to act territorial over fandoms and pairings, and try to monopolize them and dictate how other people do things!

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
hipster. the word you're looking for is hipster, as in, "I was into this before it was cool, ugh look at all these new bandwagon fans."

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Funnily enough, I've heard way more whining about this happening than actually, y'know, seen it happening. I think this might just be your own sexist, misogynistic strawman.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
It isn’t. The multiple people in the secret thread talking about similar things happening to them immediately proves you wrong. Did you not bother to read any of the comments? Or do you choose to ignore and disbelief them because you disregard anything that goes against your narrative? Just because you haven’t personally seen something doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen or that literally everyone else here is lying.

Nope, I'm exactly like the fans the OP hates, and I don't consider that bad. I do not want new fans in my old fandoms. They can make their own new versions of fandom for the same canon where no problematic things are allowed, but I don't want teenagers coming in and explaining to us grannies who were fans since we were teenagers why we should immediately stop shipping our - often intentionally baited by the writing, and in some cases canon - "toxic" ships.

The TikTok tards have no place in any fandom. They ruin things.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
“Tik Tok tards”

Wow, so edgy. Did you get lost on your way to 4chan?

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
On one hand I agree, on the other hand I had to leave my fandom of several years because of new fans. It was an awesome place, with just couple of people I've blocked and couple of tags I've muted. But then this fandom became big and full of headcanons people insisted were canon, with antis, with people attacking creators for smallest mistakes. All this new shiny fanart (with fanon I fucking hate) and fics wasn't worth being scared to go into fandom tag

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I've had to bail on fandoms for the same reasons.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen worse. I've seen so many threads full of people who have been "writing a book" for the past 20 years, that were all bemoaning the popularity of their nonexistent masterpieces. "Oh, the fandom for my book (that I'll never write) would be so very horrible! Just plain dreadful! The boundless legions of fans it would surely amass would be awful! Being a world-famous author sure is hard for me!". I feel like people are really just engaging in a fantasy in which their favorite fandoms are large enough to have these "bad" fans.

(Anonymous) 2022-04-07 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's so embarrassing I felt real cringe just reading about it lol. If you gotta LARP at least pick something cool.
