even if I don't buy them I at least rent them.

I agree and I think people should also strongly and seriously consider piracy.

Oh, fuck, same.... for any disorienting, sudden motion, in fact. I'm glad most of the games I picked up allow for adjusting in the options, but I have had to return some games that I just couldn't make work for me.

That was the whole thing with two characters in Final Fantasy XIII-2.

It was non-romantic, but the immortal protector character had to endure seeing the one he had to protect die and reincarnate over and over and over while being unable to die himself.

How are they making a good case for buying physical dvds? I have no interest in acquiring loads and loads of dvds to stack around in the space I haven't got.
Torrents for me.

For this reason (and many others to do with perception/vision/balance) I do not play most games; they make me dizzy and nauseated. Omniscient view ones, like Age of Empires are okay, though.

That *was* a good episode. It was nice to see Father Mulcahy get to dig in a little, and that scene was a good one.

For a comedy version of this, there’s Gregor/Jeff from the tv version of What We Do in the Shadows:

https://whatwedointheshadows.fandom.com/wiki/Gregor

(Despite the centuries of passionate searching and finding and loss, the immortal in question really hates the name “Jeff” this latest go-round.)

Yeah, as the comm's resident Starker shipper, the only way I cope, emotionally, is by adopting the headcanon that they invent some kind of anti-aging biotech. Or, alternatively, that when Tony is somehow miraculously returned from the dead after using the infinity stones, he's returned with some kind of minor regenerative abilities that slow his aging significantly and keep him in top shape.

My internet blocks torrents. There are a couple download sites I have access to right now, but that could change. One of those sites has had to change their link multiple times.

I don't buy dvds of everything, but I do for favorite things.

I think with this show you'd have to have at least some of the fun and ridiculousness. A serious version just wouldn't work. And I say this as someone who loves the BSG reboot. Some things work well as a reboot that is totally different, but I just can't see that with this.

Good/bad reboots

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-05-05 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some reboots you think worked well. What are ones you think were really bad?

(Anonymous) 2022-05-05 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
My space is way too limited for buying physical copies of things. A couple of years ago I threw out the boxes for all of my media and the discs are now stored in one of those giant 400-disk storage binders, and even that feels like it takes up a lot of unnecessary space. Not to mention the waste created by throwing out everything but the disk.

I will pay to rent something if it's available, but after that I am torrenting it.

What reboots do you want?

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-05-05 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some reboots that don't yet exist, but should?

Bonus points if you explain details on how you'd like to see a reboot done.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-05 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh can we get the crazy romance angles? The ridiculousness of Jerrica/Jem, Rio and Riot needs to be shared with future generations.

Weird. Is it your provider? Or would using a VPN help? I'm happy to say mine does not, though i know that's not universal.

Yup.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I think you need to balance the 80s cartoon ridiculousness with some of that 80s cartoon earnestness to make it work though. This was a series that had an episode where Jem wins the Indy 500 and an illiteracy PSA episode centered around one of the main antagonists, and it was such a soap opera that both stories make perfect sense in context. It's a fine line, is what I'm saying.

Best Reboots/Remakes: Dredd, sort of Mad Max Fury Road, True Grit, Dawn of the Dead, The Fly, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Worst Reboots/Remakes: most of the DCEU, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Carrie, Robocop.

(Anonymous) 2022-05-06 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think even if I bought DVDs, I would pretty much rip them onto a hard drive immediately.

Does it count as a reboot if it's a new adaptation of the same original source text? Genuinely not sure.

Personally, I say it is a reboot only if it references the other adaption and is as much an adaption of that as of the original. If it is just an entirely new adaption of the same source without anything specific to the other adaption, then no it isn't a reboot.

I love Dredd. Such a good movie. Mad Max Fury Road is pretty good too. Also so agreed on all of your worst.

Not phil, but it probably depends a little on the property and how long it has been around to be adapted?

Like, I wouldn't consider each successive adaptation of "The Christmas Carol" to be a reboot, but if someone made another Hunger Games trilogy, that would probably be a reboot. It's kind of a weird distinction, now that I think about it.
