I’ve been listening to MCR’s new song since it dropped. I had a really hard day at work, so that was the little pick-me-up I seriously needed.

I'm watching The Lost Tomb 2, episode 20 where Wu Xie, his childhood buddy in a terrible wig Lao Yang and some old guy are lost in a tomb maze, trapped there with giant mutant rats. This series is wild.

ooooooooo

This sounds kind of gatekeepy, and off-base anyway because you have to have some familiarity with the comics to even know who Doom is.

It's been explained way better upthread but yeah, Strange/Doom is a fascinating ship in its own right, and there's a lot you can do with it. And they've interacted a fair amount in the comics, not just Triumph and Torment (which is one of my all-time favorite Marvel stories).

There's no shortage of other guys to ship Strange with in the MCU if you want. Tony and Loki of course like you said, also Peter if you don't mind the age gap, Wong, Mordo, and there's a small contingent for a while that was shipping him with Everett Ross (because Martin Freeman). Kind of surprised him and Kaecilius didn't take off bigger than it did, honestly. Mads Mikkelsen! Canon bondage!

(This is going to get wanky because of a character introduced in the end credits, lol, and yes I do enjoy that ship a lot in canon, I don't mind m/f)

Right? I was so surprised to get that e-mail and enjoyed the new song. It makes me really nostalgic, actually.

Busy bashing out this fanfic that I literally started writing ten years ago, while my illness was flaring up; when I was at about 6000 words it got bad enough I stopped and I literally wrote nothing at all in any fandom for eight years.

I accidentally found the ten-years-old prompt on the request meme last weekend and now the story's at 26,000 words and I'm still going, so I have not actually done a whole lot else other than my paying job since last Saturday night. :P

(Spared a moment to comment on the T&B thread above since Kotetsu is the one consuming me with plot at present, heh.)

It makes me nostalgic too. The song’s got something of a Bullets vibe and I really loved it. Hopefully an album drop isn’t too far away. I need something to look forward to.

Thanks! First con since the first weekend of 2020 (I literally first read about "a worrying new respiratory virus in China" in the hotel room) so I am very much looking forward to it. :D I'm hoping I'll meet some other T&B fans, in or out of cosplay. It's sort of a good way to find them... wear a costume and see who recognizes it. :D

...More userpic because his partner's awfully hot too.

I'm okay. Playing some Xenoblade 2 and of course upsetting myself with the fucking news. But I'm thinking about going to one of those PP events this weekend so maybe I'll have an idea of how to proceed or at least be able to calm down.

It's described as eating "dreams," but apparently Black's obsessive thoughts qualify as dreams? I don't know what the original Japanese word was.

+1 on both counts.

Same. I wasn't expecting anything new but this gives me hope!

About eyes' colors, personally I just don't notice them at all. But on the secret itself, man I miss T&B craziness. I need time to rewatch it & start S2 ASAP :(

I’d love for my chronic pain to be cured, same with my depression and anxiety! So I agree with you OP.

But at the same time, I understand where these people are coming from, considering some people might feel like it has unfortunate implications. It’s like people who want a “cure” for things like autism treating autistic people and other neurodivergent people like there’s actually anything wrong with them that needs curing. That there’s something wrong with anyone who’s not neurotypical. Like autism is a disease, and not just a difference. It feels like that’s maybe what the people who find the magical cure problematic are thinking of. And in some cases, they’re right. Not everyone who has something like that, or other things like ADHD would actually want it to be cured, because it’s just a part of them. But in other cases, these people are not right, and they’re not thinking about this with the perspective and nuance it requires. Because not every situation or person is the same. And the magical cure would surely be an optional choice for people who want it in this fictional world, and not something forced upon everyone deemed “different” and “divergent” from the nebulous norm. That would be a whole different kind of story, and that type of story has already been done. And since the magical cure would be an option that’s dependent on choice in this fictional world, I’m pretty sure most people with anxiety and depression, and other afflictions that cause them constant physical and/or psychological pain, would no doubt choose it in a heartbeat. That’s what these people apparently didn’t consider, or perhaps some ignored that possibility because it goes against their point of views.

I’m not a fan of the choice to use the term “special snowflake” to describe them though. I thought everyone but the alt-right and anti-SJWs left that term behind years ago. Not that you’re an alt-righter or anti-SJW though, that’s not what I mean by pointing out the only places I usually still see people use that term. I don’t think people concerned or upset about possible unfortunate implications in a work fit that term, even if their feelings and opinions about it may be misguided. Especially since I think their feelings are understandable in some ways, like I said, even though the ways they go about asserting their thoughts might possibly not be understandable(I don’t know how they go about discussing it, I’m just covering my ass just in case some of these people have harassed the creator or other fans about this, because I don’t want people to assume I support anyone doing that). Maybe me saying this and feeling this way makes me seem like a “special snowflake”, idk.

Have the gatekeepers who accused the Doom/Strange fans of being “wannabe fans from the MCU” ever seen any MCU movies, much less ones involving Strange? Because Doom isn’t in any MCU films. He’s still owned by Sony just like the Fantastic Four, and that hasn’t changed yet. I know this has been pointed out already, but I can’t wrap my head around how stupid that accusation is, how baseless it is.

And I’m glad you realized they were wrong, OP. Because what they’re doing and saying is absolutely gatekeeping, and it’s completely shitty. And while they’re so wrong about their accusations, what would actually be wrong about these shippers genuinely being fans who migrated from the MCU canon to the wider comics fandom? Nothing. There would be nothing wrong with it. This territorial gatekeeping attitude people have towards fandom migration is arrogant. Yes, some of the new fans who migrated from elsewhere might be annoying, and might not be aware yet of any rules or something like that you have yet. But to treat every new fan who’s migrated to your corner of the fandom with this immediate scorn is wrong. Especially considering the fandom doesn’t belong to one person, or one circle of people. It’s like high school cliques all over again.

What Color are Your Eyes, and Are you Happy with Them?

Inspired by Secret #6

Do you wish you could have a certain other color, that you find the prettiest? And last question: have you ever worn color contacts specifically to have your favorite eye color?

I just find eye colors very interesting!

My eyes are sort of blue-grey and I've never really cared about eye color one way or another. It's just not something I notice or think about.

I was really, really not impressed with this book (The Fault In Our Stars)

I thought this one (Deadline) did a WAY better job with the whole "Doomed Sick Person LoveStory" thing. Especially since it was utterly lacking in any of the irritating saccharinity of FIOS.

Fantasizing about one day owning a Future Press guide for Elden Ring if and when they publish one.

Unrelated, also writing fanfiction for my favorite but also rather dead fandom.

I honestly have no idea what color my eyes are. My birth certificate says blue, but practically every classmate said they looked more green when the subject was brought up. They also seemed to change a bit as I got older. My mother praises them as looking like “Confederate grey”, which makes me very uncomfortable(yes, I do live in The South, how did you guess).

But my eyes are pretty small, enough that people always think I’m sleeping whenever they see me laying down while they’re looking from across my room, even if my eyes are wide open and focusing on something. So I can’t pinpoint any color at all when I look at them. I’m going to my eye doctor soon, and they have those big magnifying glass mirrors you can find in glasses shops, so maybe I’ll get a better look then. But I have no clue now. Blueish-greenish-grayish, idk. The best I can come up with is that they look like a dirty rain puddle. So not exactly the prettiest eye color, obviously.

Maybe the fact that I have unimpressive eyes is why I find eye colors interesting?

I was doing okay, but then some homeless rando asked me an incoherent question when I was out on my nightly walk. I made a vague noise in answer and he changed direction to follow me, including back and forth across a road, against a light, and finally into a drugstore I headed to because it was nearby and open.

Texted my sick roommate to come get me while creepy dude lurched around and I gathered an armload of gardening stuff and went to the register. By then creep was blocking the door, swaying back and forth, and an employee asked him to leave.

I told the cashier I'd been followed in, bought my stuff, and got a ride home with sick roommate. Really don't need a cold right now, but at least she doesn't have covid and I was wearing a mask. And I owe her dinner for coming to my rescue when she's sick and full up with Nyquil.

Hope creeper doesn't show up at my work tomorrow; we have a lot of homeless regulars. Mostly they're nice and just hang out and read the paper, nap, or use the computers and bathroom, and I don't recognize this guy and his behavior today would've gotten him banned.
