I couldn't believe that People loved Downton when I saw it. It is exactly as you describe and it makes me so mad. I'm British and my family were in service only three generations ago. The entire non-aristocracy country spent every post-war generation fighting to get away from that bullshit way of life. In that push we built the NHS. Now we sit by while a government of Tory millionaires break the NHS down, steal public money and drive millions into poverty, yet we fawn over this shit? Ugh ugh ugh.
