I mean... it's not wrong to be ignorant of bogus claims. The problem is when people wonder if [some BS they heard on Facebook/Youtube, etc.] is legit and then they don't bother to do any credible research for themselves and just accept the bogus claims like it's the gospel truth.

Though I have to say, massaging your face = the cure for wrinkles and jowls doesn't even sound a little bit credible to me. I'm sure it feels nice and maybe helps with blood circulation, but that's probably it.

It's alarmingly easy to delude people of all intellectual levels into believing things when they want to believe them. Love this example though - you're right it is an easy trap to fall into. At least you caught yourself.

I have a fairly common chronic illness that has very few medical treatment options. The number of people who prey on us as a cohort is ridiculous, but people are desperate and want to believe in the crap they're peddling.

I know it's trendy to hate on "big pharma" but catch yourself, OP. Whenever anyone says all medication does nothing and actively harms you while all/only natural remedies help is selling you a different type of snake oil. It's still snake oil. If all allergy meds damaged the kidneys, there'd be side-effect warnings on all of them and all allergists would warn you about that. They don't, and they don't, so....who's right, here?

In general, though, anytime someone says X is not the right way, Y is, and also let me sell you or otherwise monetize Y to my advantage, is probably wrong and bad. Anyone seeking to make money by preying on the vulnerable especially in terms of physical or mental health can jump off a bridge. I'm presently battling multiple health problems, but no matter how badly I wish there was a quick fix, I'm trusting the experts who study this stuff with the scientific method intact and working with them to find the answer instead of wasting money on bullshit.
