I live in Oklahoma which had an abortion ban ready to go. Hoping I can get out of this shit hole in a couple years. And then get my niece and nephew out as well.

However you can, do it. I got out twenty years ago, and I never want to go back. My mom is still there but she refuses to leave. I make sure she knows I will find space for her whenever she's ready.

Fuck, fuck fuck. I honestly didn't realize how strong my pro-choice opinions had gotten until today.

Also, real women's health and lives are at risk. Real women will die because of this decision. They didn't just get rid of Roe v. Wade, they are allowing states to make anti-abortion laws that don't have exceptions. This is just so fucked-up.

I'm glad I can vent here. I can't really post my opinions too strongly on Facebook given that I still live with my anti-abortion parents. Although I have commented on and liked other people's posts. And I did point out that fucking Thomas, who needs to be impeached, suggested that the court should overrule same-sex marriage, same-sex sex, and contraception access as well. I guess interracial marriage is next?

I live in Texas. So glad I had a hysterectomy a few years ago. Feel so, so bad for other women who won't be able to afford to get their abortion in another state.

Holy fuck, I just found out my mother is pro-choice at least in the sense of thinking abortion should be legal. She was pushing me to tell her why I was so off, and I finally said it was the Supreme Court decision and I didn't want to talk about it. And said she totally gets it and thinks it was the wrong decision. Wow.

My parents have always been anti-abortion. At least with my dad it has always been a think he makes a big deal out of. So I guess mom and I won't actually talk about it. But nice to know that at least she understands a little of why this is bad.

Part of me wants to move somewhere better because I'm tired of fighting. The rest of me wants to stay and fight for those who are much worse off than I am. But the first part is feeling very strong tonight.

I think next week I'll be back in the fight. Today, though, I'm over humans. I'm just going to stay in my room with my kitty. Forget humans.

Fucking hell. I know it was coming, and have for several years, just from watching the trends in politics, but it was still like a punch in the gut to read the news this morning. The next thing they're going to try to do is get a federal abortion ban through the House and Senate, while the Supreme Court goes after same-sex marriage.

The one silver lining is that this may be what it takes to wake up the majority of voters who are actually in favor of abortion rights, and get them to the voting booths in November.

Re: Roe v. Wade thread.

[personal profile] philstar22 2022-06-24 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a very small silver lining, but I do think it was stupid of them to put it out before November. Hopefully there is a massive groundswell and Republicans actually lose ground in November.

I just . . . I don’t even have the words. This is fucked up. So fucked up. I live in California, so people are saying we shouldn’t worry ‘cause we’ll be fine, but I can’t make myself believe that.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-25 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like, even if I wasn't worried for friends/family/people in general who aren't lucky enough to live here or in another state that's gonna protect our rights, this is going to impact where I feel safe traveling inside the US.

If I'm visiting a state that criminalizes abortion from the moment of fertilization with no exceptions, and I get drugged and date raped and spend a couple days recovering, will I be allowed to go home to Cali where I can take Plan B or whatever? Or will the hospital be legally required to make sure I'm not pregnant first, to avoid being held liable when I get an abortion?

And that's before getting into the possibility of a Federal ban as soon as repubs control all three branches of government again. Not to mention the other fetid shit the Supreme Kangaroo Court is busy dismantling.

Re: Roe v. Wade thread.

(Anonymous) 2022-06-24 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Proof that nothing is set in stone and that anything and everything can be lost in the blink of an eye. Hopefully it leads to some states codifying abortion rights but other states will certainly lose the right, as they already are. I cried today but am rather numb knowing what I know about history. Things will get worse, then they will get better, and we'll just keep repeating it all over and over again because that's just how societies and people are.

Re: Roe v. Wade thread.

Just today Germanys parliament agreed on deleting a paragraph of a law that banned "advertisement" of abortion.
It's a huge win for pro-choice.
Doctors or clinics providing abortions, who put that single piece of information on their websites were sued for "advertising for abortion". (Meanwhile, prolifers were allowed to spread misinformations, since the ban didnt apply to them, bc they weren't medical practitioners)

So now, proper, medical Information on abortion, as in: which method, until when, by whom, where IS allowed under law. No more fearmongering

I feel sick with worry for all my American siblings affected by this decision and the fact that you know they'll be coming for even more rights.

Plus the fact I know the people funnelling money into this outcome absolutely will not stop at the USA. I wish folk in my country weren't acting so smug, there's plenty of interfering religious bigots in high places in politics over here...some of them even liking the disgusting tweets coming from the USA today! We are not safe. Nobody is.

The one bit of tiny good news in Scotland is our parliament might actually introduce buffer zones outside sexual health clinics. Because those arseholes are definitely aided by US Evangelical dollar as well so I'll take the small win of upsetting them when they're no longer able to intimidate women in Scotland seeking healthcare.

i do however have a question; why is it that when trump was president he was presented more or less as an all-powerful dictator who could do whatever he wanted, but now biden's in charge he's seemingly powerless to do anything other than bemoan it as "a sad day"? it seems like this was the sort of thing people elect democratic presidents specifically to prevent

As a non-USian, what bothers me about this is less that this puts the decision of healthcare back in the hands of individual states (this is no different than how Canada works, healthcare decisions/laws are at a provincial level), but that there are SO MANY fucking states that basically just had their hand on the trigger waiting for this to be struck down so they could make abortion illegal, often with zero exceptions.

And the utter fucking cluelessness on Twitter "Oh just move to a state that allows it then!" like people can afford to just fucking uproot their lives over this...

The SC is trash. Well, 6/9 of them.

That said, this didn't surprise me. We were warned.

Decided to go to a local rally about two hours before I even found out it was going to happen. Lot of good speeches, creative signs, chanting (almost got a hoarse throat), pink shirts and even a damn impromptu march and I wouldn't be surprised if I got Covid (I've managed to avoid it thus far) but I need to get the fuck out of my comfort zone and be more active. Frankly, I suck shit as an ally of anybody and both want and need to do better. They spoke a lot about the importance of voting, which I agree with. I've been an election worker in the past and am seriously considering it again this year.

I hope every American in here will get out and vote when the mid-term elections come around. Mid-term elections are just as important as the general and if you care about your rights, you really need to get out there and vote. I know how easy it is to feel discouraged but don't let that stop you. Feeling too discouraged to vote is exactly what republicans want you to feel. Don't give in to them. Keep voting. Vote every single chance you get.
