Sorry, gotta vent....
Details! :D
I know there was a vent threat yesterday (and i missed it, *plus* the F!S entry the day before) because of work. But...i just gotta vent about work, omfg.
I work at a domestic violence/sexual violence/trafficking emergency shelter. We are in a tiny town with limited resources, and we do what we can. The shelter/food bank/thrift store is all under one umbrella 'ministry' run by a church/churchy people. Fortunately, there is no religious 'stuff' attached to the help, but the Board and all the admin people are all church-people buddies and cover for each other all the time.
We recently lost our kick-ass Program Manager because she got so sick of the Ex.Dir's utter bullshite. Now we have a new PM who is...completely fucking clueless. She wouldn't do the training with our oldest employee (who knows all the stuff), she doesn't know wtf she's doing, she won't be told, and she's telling the new-hired staff to do stuff the wrong fucking way. Our funding DEPENDS on the right way.
We recently had a full house, and one of the clients came up COVID positive. This was not passed on to any of us. Then two staff were COVID positive. This was also not passed on, until Friday suddenly everyone is being moved to a hotel so they can quarantine and the shelter can be deep cleaned (by us, the staff).
The new PM...said if you're sick, it's okay, you don't have to come in. We 'don't need' 24/7 coverage at the shelter. But we are a 24/7 shelter, and now there are gaps in the monitoring of the crisis fucking hotline and crisis text line, and people calling in crisis and getting NO FUCKING ANSWER. In the past, the hotline number was transferred to the text phone so someone could take it home for 12 hours and monitor calls (and get paid as on shift) so there was ALWAYS SOMEONE answering the phone. She doesn't seem to give a flying fuck. The Ex.Dir is on holiday and definitely doesn't give a fuck, and I spent the weekend (overnight shifts) bleach-cleaning half the fucking shelter and am wondering if anyone else will bother.
The other employee who has been there the longest recently had shoulder surgery and so can't do much, so i'm fine with her not cleaning. But. ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!!

(Anonymous) 2022-07-05 03:17 am (UTC)(link)Anonymous tip to the local paper?
Re: Sorry, gotta vent....
Fingers fucking crossed. But this stupid town refuses to admit we need a homeless shelter, because it 'looks bad'. Because people panhandling outside the grocery/Dollar General/Wal-Mart looks *good*.....
Re: Sorry, gotta vent....
(Anonymous) 2022-07-05 03:38 am (UTC)(link)My work was similar to yours (but I have been on a leave for a while, am I ever going back? Maybe who knows) and I know the pain of only wanting to work efficiently for the sake of the entire community and have a bad manager ruin it. It's SO. DISTRESSING. And you wonder "why can't this person just... do things the right way?". And in my case I had a feeling that some of the nastier seemingly irrational people were stealing funds and turns out I was right and they were caught at last, so I just want to say hang in there because, worst case scenario, even if you can't do much by yourself, you're certainly not the only that feels pissed off at this bad situation and time tells who your allies are.
Re: Sorry, gotta vent....
The worst part, to me, is that our funding literally depends on us getting our data in and doing it RIGHT. Having a digital paper trail, having things documented. And the new people aren't doing it, and the PM doesn't know *how* to do it, and it's just really.....
GRRRR.
I can only hope that someone starts paying attention.
I really like the job, i like my hours, the pay is *good* for my area, it's exactly what works for me and I'm good at it. I want to support my community, and I don't want these dumbasses fucking this to hell and gone.
Re: Sorry, gotta vent....
(Anonymous) 2022-07-05 04:01 am (UTC)(link)This was also an issue where I worked. Then I documented everything we were supposed to do, step by step, in written format to help the new people and myself obviously. I was lucky because when things got too difficult because of COVID (obviously there was little money to steal ...) the nasty people jumped ship for a while and the new manager, who acknowledged the issue, refined my notes and shared them and things got better. There was a lot of "DIY" to make things work. I went along with it because I liked the job and pay but yeah, I think that's just how things work in these kinds of jobs unless you have a very engaged local community. It's a worthy challenge.
Best of luck and I hope things get better!!
Re: Sorry, gotta vent....
I get people need a paycheck, but can we please be just a TINY bit selfless, sometimes?

(Anonymous) 2022-07-05 04:42 am (UTC)(link)For some people, apparently the answer is "no"
