Happy Halloween! How Are You?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Had a pretty good day with a friend - we went up town in costumes to hang out and eat, plus found some places that sold alternative fashion so I might try and go back there again when I can save up some cash to spend.

I entirely forgot it was Halloween for most of the day because:

1. I'm in Tiger & Bunny fandom and my entire social media feeds today are all birthday pics/tributes to Barnaby
2. This afternoon my boss asked if I had a second to get on a Zoom call and didn't say anything for a long, long time after I was like "Sure, what's up?" He wasn't supposed to let me know it would be one of the VPs making me a job offer, but he did anyway. :D :D :D So the long and ridiculous story about why I am still a part-time employee after 12 years, when I largely am the webdev department these days, and am working 40 hours a week despite that being technically illegal, is coming to an end as of tomorrow. And I will have health insurance.

Went to pick up some groceries after work and tell my parents the good news, forgot what day it was until I had to dodge tons of kids in the street coming back into my neighborhood.

...Now that I'm reminded, kind of tempted to put on one of my weirder costumes and just sit up on the roof staring at people.

Sore and a little disappointed. I got my hair done today, and that was nice. Got a massage too, only I'd accidentally booked a half hour instead of an hour. My back and hips have been really bothering me ever since the other day where I very nearly got into a car accident.

Also have had three bad nights in a row, so really overtired. Going to go to bed soon.

Also, we put together bags of candy and put them in front of our door. Yet our doorbell still keeps getting repeatedly rung. The bags are right there to take, how are they not getting it?

Had a 12 hour shift today and working another one tomorrow. I don’t really do Halloween so I’m fine with having to work but this is a lot of work. Finally writing fanfic again though so that’s exciting.

Doing okay, all things considered. My husband's COVID is fading, and I'm still testing negative. Hopefully soon I can stop sleeping on the couch. (He's a fairly big guy, so I figured he'd be more comfortable taking the bed.)

I'm doing laundry and we have had NO trick-or-treaters at our house, third year in a row! :( The good news is this means I get to eat all the leftover chocolate bars.

Ugh recovering from the rona. I'm vaxxed and boosted and still got it. Yesterday was awful, all I did was sleep and wake up every few hours to puke yellow bile while sweating thru my clothes. Today I am much better, no puking and can keep food down, appetite is back to a degree, but my rib cage and abs are sore af and anything I eat or drink tastes bitter.

On the plus side, I get to eat all the trick or treat candy myself (can't risk giving anybody the rona via Twix and Reeses, right????).

Getting over the initial upset about something the fools who run my apt bldg did. I put on a costume and am going to a nearby bar to have some drinks and a bite to eat.

I made a mini witch hat that I wore all day today, along with some black clothes from my closet as a casual witch outfit. I had briefly thought of going out, but then I remembered that I had student midterms to grade, so I did that for a bit and now I'm goofing off online (still wearing the mini witch hat along with my pjs lol)

tired. unsure if it's all the raking I did to make sure the sidewalk and drive were clear or the excessive amount of Everclear which was used to spike the apple cider. probably both.

It's my first day off after my long weekend of night shifts, and I have not been out of my robe all day.

I've got all my candles lit and I've been binging on ER episodes. :D

Admittedly a little depressed how low energy Halloween is this year here. Saw only a few people in costumes, Halloween goodies have already been cleared out for Christmas in stores, even the bars are dead. I'm used to hearing cop sirens all night during Halloween but nope, no mischief.

had a somewhat-socially-distanced birthday/halloween party where I went as Eddie Munson (a costume that my older-and-much-younger relatives might not have 'gotten', but a family friend on zoom and my own friends online did), watched some spooky-but-family-friendly stuff, had some very gooey cake.

my stress has been horrible lately but I had a really lovely night! And now I have leftover cake to share with my sisters.

My mom got her new cookware, so we're doing a bit of an organization re-do on her kitchen soon and she'll be giving us our pick of her old pots/pans when we help her get it all set up.

It was pretty good this year. I got about 10 trick or treaters total, while in previous years, I've gotten less than half or even a third of that. My area has been taken over by Trunk or Treat*, thanks to people who are either super religious or paranoids who think their children will be given fentanyl edibles, so lots of kids do that (always during the day) and then don't go out on Halloween evening.

* I get that Trunk or Treat is good for people who live in areas where traditional trick or treating might not be feasible, like living in an apartment building or out in the country where every house is a mile apart, but I hate to see traditional trick or treating being phased out. Part of the fun is going from house to house in the dark where it is kind of spooky.

Could someone explain for my very stupid friend...

(Anonymous) 2022-11-01 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
...how Uber works? You see, my friend hasn't actually used any kind of transport service that wasn't a courtesy vehicle in about a couple of decades. Do they have to download an app? Make a date in advance for when the ride is needed? What are other people's experiences with Uber? Are there things to be avoided, or looked out for (such as creeps)? Is it cheaper/easier than a taxi, or is my friend better off with a taxi service (living on the outskirts of town and needing to get to the other side, basically)?

Re: Could someone explain for my very stupid friend...

(Anonymous) 2022-11-01 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
How Uber works is basically, you download the app, enter your pickup and drop-off location, request a ride, and then the ride comes and takes you there. You don't need to set it up too far in advance - a lot of it depends on how many drivers there are at the time when you're using it, but IME it's usual 5-15 minutes to get a ride at most. I mostly use Lyft rather than Uber but AFAIK there's no real difference between them.

It's hard to say whether it's cheaper or easier than a taxi, it really depends on the area - I think as a general rule it's going to be easier but not necessarily cheaper but honestly it's just impossible to say. I think some places the taxi companies have Uber-style apps now but I've never used one.

I personally would use a taxi - my experience with Uber is less than awesome. I live in a small city and the Uber app took hours to even days to update on my phone; there were so few drivers available during early mornings.

Re: Could someone explain for my very stupid friend...

(Anonymous) 2022-11-01 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Yeah. Download the app. Type your address, or even let it fetch for you through your phone's GPS system. OR even set your home address if you want.
Now, type the address of the place where you want to be.
The route will be shown on a map and it will be like "how do you want to pay? Credit card, money...?" so you have to insert your CC number and stuff. Now press "ask for uber" . The designed car will reach your home in 10 min at most usually. (you'll know by their color and model and number and stuff like that. There's the driver's name in the app too.) Put earphones on if you don't wanna chat. And then it will drive you to your destination. Voila!

I wouldn't use a taxi. No uber driver ever tried to rob me.

It is basically a minicab service, only instead of phoning Irene at the office to send a driver you tap on the app and it sends your request to a driver for a lot more money than any minicab service will ever charge. And who may rape you. Then give you a negative rating for not enjoying your rape.

Thanks for everyone's replies. Sorry to those who had horrible experiences. I'm going to- I mean my friend is going to think about it some more and weigh their options.

Thanks again!

I give out regular sized chocolate bars to try and bribe kids to come by our house. This year the doorbell rang 14 times before we turned off the lights. I have so much candy left over! Ahh!

We played the dnd board game around the kitchen table for three hours with breaks to pass out candy. It's been a great night.

Because I need them today.

Hey everyone! Boys Love fan anon here. Had a shitty day today, more to come prob and I want to read a sweet, sweet story. While I feel like BL delivers what I need more often than not, any cute recs will do. Today I came THIS close to reading Heartstopper, but the art... kinda... ew. Anyway. Give me the toothache. Preferably in BL format but if you have anything else in mind, it's okay, I may give it a try. Thanks!
