Well...

It wasn't the blood bath everyone was expecting yesterday. Thankfully.

Yes. It is still pretty close to call. I hope at least the Republicans don't win both the house and senate. But it is nice that it wasn't a bloodbath.

Republicans underestimated how much people care about abortion rights.

Very very pleased with my home state. Pretty much the only thing I was eligible to vote for that didn't go my way was getting rid of one of the members of the state supreme court (and both incumbents won, so not like anything got worse there). Our trio of awesome ladies is still in charge, and Dems won control of state house AND senate for the first time apparently since 1983 - so no more obstruction of their awesomeness! Abortion enshrined in state constitution!

I feel so bad for everyone in TX, GA, and FL though. :/

I'm still disappointed at how close lots of the races were/are. Georgia for the senate and Louisiana for the slavery measure. How. How? How?!

Colorado 3. Lauren Boberts seat is down to the WIRE like 60ish votes. I'm screaming. That district is red as hell, even Republicans are sick of her shit.

I'm in Oregon and we got the new governor I voted for so I'm happy about that.

I'm A Celebrity rubbish

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
OK, people are bitching about Matt Hancock and his "indiscretions", but why aren't they bitching about Boy George handcuffing a model/escort to the wall and beating him with a metal chain? I mean, out of the two I know who /I/ think is more deserving of being bitched about. Is it just because Matt effed up more recently?

Re: I'm A Celebrity rubbish

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's because it was more recent, and Matt Hancock is a politician.

Re: I'm A Celebrity rubbish

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't there also an addiction element? As in, Boy George was dealing with drug addiction problems at the time, and he served his time for the crime and presumably has dealt with the underlying issues. That doesn't excuse the original crime but I can see how people would think it makes a difference going forward.

I think it’s because one happened almost 15 years ago and wasn’t a huge story vs the health secretary violating lockdown and snogging his mistress very recently.

There could also be issues of viewers giving George a pass because of his sexuality, others assuming it was a he said, he said misunderstanding, and still others not caring because they like singing Karma Chameleon when it’s on the radio. People are funny.

Who's Better

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Who's better - Spock or Kirk?

(if you want to ask a different one, feel free to change the thread title)

Re: Who's Better

(Anonymous) 2022-11-09 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
At what? It's kind of too broad a question.

But I'm voting Spock.

Kirk but only because William Shatner played Denny Crane, domestic partner to Alan Shore and proxy crush to James Spader. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i42Gdnf4Bf8

As a character, Spock. But Kirk is hotter (all 3 of them).

Spock.

Re: Who's Better

Nimoy's Spock is better than Shatner's Kirk
Pine's Kirk is better than Quinto's Spock
I haven't watched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, so no judgement on Peck's Spock versus Wesley's Kirk.

Spock. But then I've got a history of picking emotionally unavailable men, so. Kirk is too much of a horndog for me, tho.

I’m so sick of Florida!

(Anonymous) 2022-11-10 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Having a tropical storm this late in the year is ridiculous, and after Ian already devastated so much of Florida! Nicole is only a tropical storm still, I think. But it might as well be a hurricane.

I’m so fucking freaked out! The first tornado warning for my area just got issued. And there will most likely be more until it passes over my city tomorrow. Not to mention flooding, property damage, and power outages are all possible. I wish I could have evacuated, but Georgia isn’t much better off as far as being out of the cone of the storm, at least that’s what the news said. And I can’t drive much farther because I’m still recovering from a broken leg! And flying isn’t really an option either.

I can’t move to Asheville, NC for my job soon enough! It won’t be perfect. Because no place is. But at least it won’t be Florida!
