Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2022-12-31 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
being one of those with proshippers DNI in my profile, it’s people who ship everything from incest (even people who are clearly siblings despite not being related, like Sonic and Tails, of which there are shippers who ship that) to other harmful subjects like adult/minor stuff. at least for me. I know it’s different for everyone what a ‘proshipper’ is, but as far as I’m concerned, that’s what they are for me

Thank you for the explanation.

'even people who are clearly siblings despite not being'

Serious side eye for you.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
by that I meant people who clearly adopt each other as found family, you idiot

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's not incest, so drop the invective. People can evolve and change and tge nature of a relationship can change too. There are real, psychological reasons why incest is bad. Found family is completely different.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes, because Sonic and Tails "clearly adopt each other as found family". Got it.

Lmao truth.

Re: Question

As someone who has yet to have any found family or incest ships, and am squicked by incest fic besides, found family=/=incest. I mean, spouses are found family, even if that's not the way fandom uses the term.

And, you know, fictional incest and fictional fucked up shit is fictional. I may not read it or like it, but it has as much bearing on my life as a book about cute little dragons holding a waffle eating contest.

Da

“cute little dragons holding a waffle eating contest.”

This is off-topic, but I wish such a work existed. I’d read it!

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Mostly it's people who don't ship any of those things but don't bully those who do. If you're not a proshipper, you're pro-bullying.

And fuck you and your ilk for ruining the purpose of found family. It's not just a cute fanfic trope where everyone decides who in the friend group is the mommy and daddy and brother and sister and funny uncle. It's something real people who've lost their families do when they find others who they connect with. Adopting a sibling or parental bond isn't a part of that.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
+1000 that's exactly it.

Found family is often people who have lost or been rejected by bio-families (often FOR BEING QUEER) who, as adults, find a family in the deeper sense of a group of people who are committed to each other through thick and thin - take care of each other in illness, will look after each other in old age, etc. It does not have to reproduce heteronormative nuclear family dynamics. It does not necessarily exclude sexual or romantic feelings. (Married couples are "found family" for fuck's sake)

+2000

This, exactly.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
So would you say you think of "proship" as short for "problematic ship" as opposed to just people who have a "ship and let ship" mindset?

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"So would you say you subscribe to the revisionist, disingenuous definition of proship created by antis to set up a false dichotomy, as opposed to the correct definition?"

Fixed the question for you.

Re: Question

So.. people who like things you don't... What a weirdo...

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Proship" doesn't even mean people are necessarily into any of that at all. You can be a pro-shipper and only have the tamest non-problematic ships out there, because "pro-ship" is analogous to "pro-choice." You don't have to have an abortion yourself, or even be capable of getting pregnant, to be pro-choice, you just need to mind your own business and also defend other people's rights.

Also, if they're not related, it's not incest. "Found family" is such an amorphous phrase with no solid definition. When you marry someone, you become legal next of kin and legally family. Is all sex between married people incest? Obviously not, that's just stupid.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, this to both of your points

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I have seen someone in all seriousness try to claim that a ship between two characters who didn't even meet until they were about 11 years old was incest because they lived together for a few years after one character's parent took the other character in since the other character kind of had no family.

I feel like this person both had no actual siblings of their own and also never had a childhood friend in their life.

Re: Question

(Anonymous) 2023-01-01 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the excellent example of why I always block "proshippers DNI" when I see it in the wild, even though all my ships are pretty tame. People with that in their bio are busybodies and fan-cops who aren't capable of just scrolling by when they see something they don't like, they always have to make some screeching judgmental moral issue out of it. I just block so I won't interact by accident, and nothing of value to me is lost.
