It was my youngest sister's birthday, and she really enjoyed what other sister and I got her (we found a cute model building kit that looked kind of like her favorite restaurant from our old hometown area!), plus we had a great dinner and just some hang-out time.

I sewed three rope baskets this morning and embroidered the names of our pets in the for their Easter baskets. The doggos loved their goodies! Each got a rope toy for chewing (my little guy) or playing (my senior who never stopped being a puppy), and then they each got two toys exclusive to them. We also bought a 12 pack of Etta Says sticks and they each got one tonight. They’ll get the rest spaced out over the next month or two. The cat didn’t get anything but the basket; I made hers much larger and oblong. She promptly stepped into it and turned into a loaf, which was a dream come true. Honestly the most perfect Easter I can remember. Tomorrow I need to make another cat basket for my in laws who are coming to visit and then I am never making one again LOL

Got almost nine miles of walking in today. Paid property taxes.

Saw some neat birds (a great blue heron and some egrets fishing, a cormorant preening, what I think was a red-shouldered hawk with a crow pestering it, but instead of doing a mob call the crow was trying to get the hawk to share its lunch) and petted some cute dogs, including one that kept trying to lick my face. Also saw lots of lizards and some pretty wildflowers.

A dog (border collie maybe?) leapt a baby gate to come say hi and beg belly rubs when I was out walking last night.

When I went to tell its people it got out, no one answered, but one of the two other fucking enormous dogs came out of the house and I thought I was gonna get my face bitten off, but it just wanted pets and attention too. The third growled at me but I was able to shoo its buddies inside and get the baby gate back up. But I heard a thump as I was walking away so I expect they immediately got out again. I'm sure they're fine; the big ones were husky/Alaskan Malamute looking things the size of Irish Wolfhounds and the owners must know they could basically just step over the gate to get out. When I came by again on the other side of the street I could see one of the big ones lying just inside the gate on its back with all four paws in the air. Anyone up to no good stepping over the gate would probably have it easier stepping on a beartrap.

My fuzzy grey cat is curled up on my lap. My neighbor's cats showed up to beg treats this morning and the one who always tries to follow me everywhere is back.

Had bad stuff happen this week too, so thanks for the reminder to enjoy good things.

I re-batched some soaps I wasn't happy with. I had let them get too cold while right after making them by leaving them in the basement. They came out all crumbly. So I ground them up and tried to re-cook them. We'll see how it goes. They won't look pretty but maybe they'll have a good texture this time. If not I'm ready to trash them.

Sorry, craft projects not working out always sucks. That said, idk enough about making soap to know if it's an option, but I swear I've read about making bar soap into liquid soap by just adding water and blending? Not liquid castille soap or anything fancy or sellable, but it would still work for hand-washing, instead of throwing it out.

Places for fan art?

I'm currently having issues with Tumblr's tagging system and was thinking about alternatives for uploading fan art.
For the longest time I had been uploading fan art on Deviantart since 2005 until their very recent bs with AI and various attempts to make money for their failing site (I still have my old account for nostalgic reasons and where I still fave works on there, but I had recently deleted to one I made after the eclipse update in 2020).

I was looking into Pixiv, but I don't know much about what is or isn't ok to put on there yet - and I'm still holding off from having a twitter account.

I guess I was wondering if anyone goes to or uploads anywhere else? Even if its a fandom-specific site or something.

I have the same problem. There seems no place for fanart. I've seen people uploading fanart on instagram and they get traction. But I hate insta so whatever.
I've been using twitter for uploading fanart, but now it's a dumpster fire.
Professional artist places like artstation are boring af. You only get other crearives there. And everyone just try to be noticed, it's not a community.

I used artfol for like two seconds and it was a buggy disaster. The only places I can think of that are friendly to artists are little startups with no audience yet.

I've seen a few people host fanart in one place but upload it to Ao3, and I love the idea and hope it catches on.

The problem is what happens when hosting sites go down and also very few places will allow nsfw art in the first place, but if your art is worksafe at least that's not an issue.

This is what I do, hosting my fanart on Tumblr (most of it) or DW (if it's nsfw) and linking on ao3 but it's not ideal.

I can't imagine using AO3 as a main fanart platform - simply for the fact that you can't see any thumbnails/preview of the artwork and have to click through every time. I personally couldn't be bothered to do it.

A bit over two months ago my brother and I had a fight that ended with him punching me in the face a few times. He's an asshole ex(?probably not)junkie with an undiagnosed mental illness (likely on the schizophrenia spectrum) who has been terrorising my family with his bullshit for years/decades. To top things off, my mother basically blames the fight getting physical on me because I "touched him first" (I pushed him away when he threatened me with violence) and is miffed that I don't want any contact with him at the moment.
So yeah, it's his birthday today and I don't intent to contact him. But considering the guilt tripping my mother does plus my own ingrained idiocy that can't stop feeling guilty/bad for the guy I'm not feeling great. Which is dumb because he probably doesn't give a fuck anyway and in the end I'm likely more bothered about this than him. So ugh. 0 Points, would not recommend.

Apparently I’m in the minority for thinking SNL crossed a line by making Hitler jokes about a random game show contestant. Like, okay, he had an unfortunate hairstyle. That’s literally it. He didn’t do anything wrong. He’s not “fair game”, he’s not a celebrity, he’s just a guy who was on a game show. I’m not very familiar with SNL so maybe they’re usually assholes and this isn’t out of character, but this huge comedy show saying “This guy was really upset by people on Twitter saying he looked like Hitler, so we’re gonna make jokes about it!” is just. I don’t think it’s cool.
