fic recs

I'm watching a show and there's a pairing I'm shipping hard. This is unusual for me, but I just love their dynamic and I crave more. I wanted to read fics but there is a lot more show to watch still, and this pairing is canon and I couldn't avoid some ominous references to "how it plays out", so I'm sure I'd be in for major spoilers. So I thought I'd try to sate my thirst by reading fics of other pairings with a similar dynamic.

So, does anyone have recs for fic with a pairing where the two characters have a colleagues/friends dynamic, neither is the romantic type or seems interested in a relationship in general, they work very well together because they think alike, they kinda flirt but it's more just a playful way of interacting ("Hand me that" – "here you go" – "i love you") and neither takes it seriously – and then it develops from there?

I'm not sure how it played out in later seasons but I think Harvey/Donna in Suits fits that dynamic.

Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made.

I've started and plotted a lot of epic length fanfic, complete with outlines and chapter summaries, but can't seem to finish them in order to post them. It's not because of laziness though; I just can't stay obsessed with one piece of media for the length of time it takes to finish long fic. I used to be able to, but can't any more.

By epic length I mean like 50-100k words

I’m late to the party but I’ve been listening to Hadestown lately and I love it. The vibe, the mythology, the storytelling.

The reason I started listening is because I want to write a modern retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice but I’m now afraid I’ll never be able to write anything half as epic.

I'm still so bitter that Carnivale got canceled after 2 seasons. A remake could be interesting, but the original cast was so perfect that I don't think they'd ever recapture the magic. Secret because apparently I'm the only person who ever watched that show.

There's a whole album that I have based a bunch of fics on -- you can call it an anthology of sorts. Each song is dedicated to a different character, but the whole time we're following the journey the OC is taking when meeting and interacting (and getting down with) with the MCs. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm ever going to actually write it --drawer fic or posted fic. I'm sad because I really see the whole thing in my head.

I honestly don't get what the kerfluffle with Netflix' Cleopatra casting is. She's hardly the first black Cleo out there (for example, my first onscreen Cleopatra was Gina Torres on Xena) and there've been other nonwhite depictions of her as well, especially if you add non live action works to the mix.
Imho, they'd have to do something really out the left field for the casting to raise an eyebrow. Like cast a male asian actor or something.

I have recently realized that for years I've thought that Justin Theroux and Justin Trudeau are the same person.
In my defense, I'm from a small country where public figures, including politicians, often have second jobs, so Canadian prime minister have a Hollywood career never seemed like a weird idea to me.

I get the distinct feeling that if I watched this show, there would be a bunch of fic I would just have to stop reading* or just completely reassess** and wonder if I was wearing the readily and freely available fandom glasses I was given the first time I looked up MHA fics (thank you, FS for introducing me to this fandom to begin with, lol)

*Fics I would need to stop because my perspective would completely change, i.e. based on story summaries, I would end up reading grown up and not AS much of a violent little shit but still an abrasive asshole Bakugo fics
** Reassessing my understanding of: Was Endeavor really that shitty and abusive? Have they actually written him as less abusive? Was Bakugo's mom actually abusive? Or was she just loud AF? How chill was Hawks really? Is he a playboy or sweetheart? There was that whole cheating meme... How unhinged was Dabi? Would he really kidnap an OC and force her into a messed up and abusive relationship? Was All Might really that good hearted? Really that sheepish/naive? Was Shigaraki really that crusty and in need of lotion? The world may never know, because I'm not gonna watch it.

Marcus Parks and Stephen King are two men who I really can't tell if I think are physically attractive.

I've seen flattering and unflattering pictures of them both.

(I respect their work and personalities, so they're appealing either way.)

(Fandom is the Captive Prince trilogy by C.S. Pacat)

I read Captive Prince expecting there to be a lot more non-con smut than there turned out to be. The way people had talked it, it sounded like gay 50 Shades of Gray, but what I actually got was gay Game of Thrones.
I can't really complain, cause it was actually a much better book series than I'd expected it to be. Still a little disappointed, though.

I'm trying to read Gideon the Ninth, and while I'll probably finish it and maybe read the rest of the series, it's been kind of a slog.

If I like a book I'll stay up reading until ass o'clock in the morning, and at this point, I very rarely read (or finish) anything I don't enjoy. But I see so many references to it in my unrelated fandoms, I wanted to know wtf the big deal was. For me, the answer seems to be "nothing."

I discovered my sister, who is in her 40s, thinks Andrew Tate is a guy who "speaks the truth". Conservative women who still believe in being the Pick Me also play a role in guys like Tate being popular.
I know it's hilarious that a grown ass woman taking a guy like Tate seriously because the majority of his fans are young boys in middle and high school, but it's sad that there are still grown ass women who believe that women deserve to be treated like garbage.
I wish I could talk sense into her but she's a typical conservative fundamentalist Christian so it's just a waste of breath and not worth the anger inducing rage I feel when I try to talk to her.

I never leave comments nor kudos on fics written in English in megafandoms, no matter how good they are. Oh boo you only had 100,000 hits and 1000 kudos? well cry me a river and come back when you write in rarer languages and for the kind of small fandoms where you're lucky to get 10 hits and you can flip a coin on getting 0 or 1 single kudos--those I'll do my best to comment and encourage.

My sister made fun of Sugababes' "Stronger" when I was listening to it once. I know super pop songs, especially girl power anthems, can be corny. But this song is basically the supportive, independent older sister I never had telling me it's worth it to live for yourself. My sister is struggling to leave her abusive husband and damn, that internalized misogyny is a fucking monster. I can't save my sister, I can't make her like this song, I can't make her see that prioritizing the patriarchy hasn't helped her at all. But I'm so glad I learned to love and accept the corny shit that makes me feel good about myself

I just tried watching Dragon Age Absolution while sick and couldn't get past half of the second episode. But the mention of the Inquisitor (clumsy as it was) gave me sudden nostalgia about the game and my Inquisitor. I didn't even like Inquisition and its characters all that much and I can't read fanfic because DA main character based fanfic is just so player/writer specific I can't get into it.
So I guess now my only options are writing my own in a fandom that is dead and wouldn't care about my personal Inky anyway or just... wallow in nostalgia and hope it passes.

I just read an amazing Dragon Age fic and I am definitely not in the DA fandom. I had to look up some of the characters because I just didn't understand some references, but otherwise it was a good time. I'm not usually a "read random stuff" kind of ficcer but this one surprised me.

So curious, do you search by tags/plot and just read whatever or do you like to stick to your known fandoms?
