I think it's a really interesting topic but it feels like the number of possible stories you can tell with that setup is quite limited. Maybe it would be better as like, a one-case-per-season serialized thing?

Well, now would be the time while it's still new and ethically gray. Even though they take DNA samples with fingerprints in places now, that's only of people who have been arrested. Searchable DNA comes more from ancestry sites and while people may give up legal rights to their sample once it's submitted, it's morally iffy to use DNA that was voluntarily submitted with the expectations for it only to be used for genealogical research and health screenings.

What I'm saying is, I'm guessing there'll be legislation soon enough, it's really walking the line on being constitutional.

This sounds like either we’d have the same story every episode or it would need to be sci-fi copaganda. The ethical issues surrounding this make me really uncomfortable either way.

I appreciate the idea but I don't think it has the potential to be a whole TV series. Other procedurals - see CSI for instance - are interesting because they draw on a wide range of investigative or scientific techniques to frame stories around. Forensic geneaology is fascinating, but at the end of the day it's only one technique. Imagine for instance if Dexter was just about blood splatter analysis, and didn't have the secret serial killer/ family drama/ police intrigue plot lines. It would, frankly, get boring pretty quickly.

If you are looking for forensic DNA content, I would recommend the podcast DNA ID, which covers cold cases that have been solved by DNA years later, some of which involve forensic genaeology.

Same here. Even knowing her views I'm still very physically attracted to her, which sucks! She's a terrible person and deeply stupid on top of that! I try to replace the feeling by looking at Lucy Lawless more.

Yeah, it’s a shame she sucks so hard )= I don’t fault them for getting rid of her because it wasn’t just one thing as her stans make out, but I do wish she’d just kept her thoughts and opinions to herself. I wish pretty much all entertainers would do that, tbh. I’m sick of everything being political and I’m sick of so many thinking they’re standing on a hill they have to die on.
I guess it doesn’t much matter at this point. The last writer’s strike killed off half the scripted shows and made reality tv king. This new strike will finish the job and even afterwards we won’t have much to watch and it won’t be worth it. It barely is now.

Carano wasn't fired for her political opinions, she was fired because she kept posting her political opinions on Twitter and stirring up shit. Unfortunately, Gina simply could not figure out that it was maybe time to stop posting about politics on Twitter if she wanted to keep her job. I can't really blame Disney for deciding that her role as Cara Dune wasn't making them enough money to make dealing with the PR headaches and negative publicity she kept bringing down on them worth it.

I mean, Pedro Pascal did try and talk to her and explain to her why what she was saying was offensive. Given that he has a trans sister who he's very close to, it sounds like he was a lot more willing to reach out to Carano than I probably would have been. It seems like she just wasn't willing to listen to him or to stop saying things that were upsetting her costars.

I agree, her character was a good part of the ensemble, but the actor just wasn't working well with the rest of the cast even before it started spilling out onto Twitter.

i've been praying on her downfall for years. kind of wish it were just run of the mill people realizing she can't act to save her fucking life and not her extremely gross views on things, but i'll still take it.

I'm watching a show and there's a pairing I'm shipping hard. This is unusual for me, but I just love their dynamic and I crave more. I wanted to read fics but there is a lot more show to watch still, and this pairing is canon and I couldn't avoid some ominous references to "how it plays out", so I'm sure I'd be in for major spoilers. So I thought I'd try to sate my thirst by reading fics of other pairings with a similar dynamic.

So, does anyone have recs for fic with a pairing where the two characters have a colleagues/friends dynamic, neither is the romantic type or seems interested in a relationship in general, they work very well together because they think alike, they kinda flirt but it's more just a playful way of interacting ("Hand me that" – "here you go" – "i love you") and neither takes it seriously – and then it develops from there?
