A-fucking-men.

At the end of a long workday/-week i wanna relax and not get demotivated to the max bc i didn't grind or pay.

I did this for Divinity Original Sins for my second playthrough. Mainly because -while the turn based fighting system was interesting, it took so, so ridiculously long to get through a single fight.

Yeh. It's a tough balance. Story mode-type stuff is so easy as to be unchallenging. I want a little bit of fiber. It's hard to get it right!

This is my problem. I don't want to spend forever grinding in a game, but by the same token, if the game is too easy then I get bored with it and quit. I want a game that's challenging but that doesn't require a ton of grinding to make progress.

Yeah exactly.

I notice this especially in strategy games and RPGs. In the easy modes, you can just beat everything with barely any effort. On the other hand, in hard modes, it's like the AI is telepathically divining exactly what you want to do and specifically berserking their way to kill all of your guys as quickly as possible. Or there's a bunch of completely arbitrary challenges the game puts in your way to handcuff you.

It's very hard to find a balance! It's very hard to have a level of challenge that's fun without being grindy *and* that remains fun through the course of a whole game.

Exactly, and that's not what I want. Not wanting to have to spend two hours leveling up before I can even hope to go up against the next boss doesn't mean I want that boss to be easy when I do fight it, I would just prefer not to have to put in that two hours of grinding first.

I don't really care about fighting in games. It's fun, but it's not the reason I play. I play for exploring and story, so I really love storymode options in games.

I do this with most games! Tbf I keep playing the same ones over but even the rare new game I do this. I want story! Exploration! Scavenging and creating things! The battling parts of video games tend to be the least fun for me so I set it up that I’m not stuck in them for long.

Amen, OP. I look for different experiences in different games, but overall I'm not interested in long grinds anymore. I have a full time job and a life. I can get bored and frustrated anywhere, I'm playing a game to have fun. If I'm not having fun, I make adjustments to the settings until I do, and I do not give a single fuck about shit-tossing contests over difficulty levels.

Gotta have that high flash though
