I remember coming out of this movie so disappointed and annoyed. I know monster movies will have some human drama in them, but this one had too much and too little monster-action.

Plus this series of monster movies take themselves WAY too seriously imo. I liked King of the Monsters more and actually had fun in that one, but someone needs to tell the script-writer of these films that this genre isn't some High Drama fare, it's dumb-shit and the characters should be echoing that. Srs TM doesn't work for monster-smash shenanigans.

This is me with Haruhi Suzumiya. The fetish porn is crazy good, but I sincerely doubt the canon characters would have personalities this suited to porn. If I read the original, the porn would probably be ruined forever for me.

(I made a secret about this once, but somehow multiple commenters got it backwards and thought I was saying the porn ruined the original for me.)

SPOILERS IN THIS COMMENT

I read a bunch of MHA fic after only getting through like a season of the anime. Have finished what's aired of the anime at this point but haven't watched the movies or read the manga and don't intend to.

My read on the fandom:

A lot of the really big fics were written before the war arc so don't take that into account anyway. As a result it's a mishmash of different fan interpretations at different points in the narrative. Frankly, if you're familiar with the basic plot and the core cast I don't think it's necessary to consume the canon to enjoy the fandom.

My read on the canon based only on the anime:

Endeavour was that abusive, but the narrative has chosen to redeem him through his future actions without retconning his past. Make of that what you will.

Bakugo has been redeemed by the narrative by becoming Izuku's friend and supporter (and, you know, was a young teenager when he was a bully so there is lot more leeway with redeeming him). He definitely needs therapy though. But basically the fics where he is mellower as an adult are consistent with his canon characterisation, if you assume he recognises his issues and works on them.

I have never understood the fandom's obsession with Dabi so I have no comment there. But also narratively he's still a psychopath so ???

Shigaraki is one of the most boring villains of all time and I refuse to read fic about him, lol.

Hawks is narratively a chill, cool competent guy who is also a great spy. And also canonically a simp for Endeavour in the same way Izuku is a simp for All Might, which is hilarious. Not actually a playboy in the narrative but the leap isn't that far tbh.

All Might isn't written as naive or sheepish as far as my reading? Just a victim of the circumstances created by the power vacuum of him giving up his powers, which he didn't really have a choice over. But there might be more plot I've not seen.

In conclusion: consuming more of the canon probably won't change your fandom reading habits, so don't worry too much about it.

Hi, OP. I'm the anon who posted in the secret maker's thread a while ago. I've been too busy and too burnout to write the stuff I intended to and I thought this secret would be up next week. :(

I'm also back at reading some BNHA fics and I'll try to find out some tropes that don't align with the canon.

I’ve done that before, but in my case, it was a discount for a proxy service and not a particular item. I ended up being very disappointed by the whole experience (no communication from the proxy service after seven months of waiting, overcharged on shipping, item shipped via sea instead of air) and it really soured my view on the YouTuber. I don’t even watch her videos anymore.

This is something that I've been seeing a lot. I can't tell if it's become more common over the years, or more pernicious, since I don't have any data. But it seems to me that hand in hand with the purity culture bullshit has come this idea that your likes and dislikes are objective, and so if you have a dislike you have to come up with (even make up) reasons for why something is bad. For some reason, there's a large percentage of people who have a hard time with just saying, "Eh, not my jam."
