Off. Yeah, writers who are building a world for a genre series should really make themselves an encyclopedia, or at least a cheat sheet, about it.

Yeah, there was death wishes in the most popular thread on fs yesterday. =( The person it was directed at didn't reply and no one paid any attention to it as if it were normal.

I came to conclusion that the only way to avoid extreme toxicity like death wishes, ra*ism and profanity is to have a strict moderation like FF14. Three strikes and your account is out, permanently. People suck.

Some authors manage to contradict themself in a single book.

I'm not interested in having a fight, or enabling someone else's bad faith arguing. Most people don't want a discussion. They just want a response so they can keep on dumping on people they declare wrong.

It never hurt Terry "alternate pasts" Pratchett to just ignore stuff that he didn't like in his own works, or found got in the way of a story. Of course, few authors are Terry Pratchett level storytellers.

Starting to think it was less that it recruited Earth's brightest and best, and more that they just rounded up all the assholes nobody else wanted to deal with and shipped them to another galaxy out of the way.

Dunno. If someone replies to me, I do respond. Things get annoying when the other person drops the ball after that. (And then there's a guy on WDC who states he wants discussion but gets pissy if anyone does drop a comment that calmly expresses a dissenting opinion.)

I've observed this not only online but in offline spaces (such as city advisory boards and commissions).
