As far as F&H goes, feel like 2 is less scary because there's more character interactions. In 1, you have only so many people you can actually talk to (that aren't abominations, anyway). In 2, there's so many! But also yes, the atmosphere of being in a dark medieval dungeon full of monsters is a lot different than Prehevil.

I think Xander's theme, in the first few seasons at least, was Every Breath You Take by the Police. Yeah, I always saw him as a creepy stalker.

Not really seeing how it's less cliche, TBH. He still acts like a dick because the chick he's perving on dares to have feelings about things and/or people that aren't him. Okay, so he eventually moves on and doesn't 'get the girl' in regards to Buffy herself, but that's only because he starts perving on someone else instead... and he's sure as heck not punished for the shit he pulls either.

So just your standard creepy pervy dudebro cliche all around, really.

I get the concept of one sided shipping like sure sometimes ya just wanna see someone pining. This feels less like that and more like, something that is deeply annoying to watch, but would be even worse if it was reciprocated.

I don't really understand how anyone can't understand one sided shipping - it's one of the oldest clichés. Xander is just one giant cliché.

However I can understand someone not understanding the appeal of one sided shipping, in which the Xander solution doesn't really seem to help.

Either way, sometimes people don't need to understand they just need to accept. Ship your ships and go hardcore on your clichés OP, and if people don't get it, well they don't need to.

Sorry but I think Xander's one-sided feelings are also extremely cliche.

I find Xander annoying and mundane as anything. But I rather liked his having a hopeless crush on Buffy, when the series was new, because it was so rare for media to show a guy wanting a girl that he actually wasn't going to be able to win over. Friendship was the most Xander was ever going to be able to offer her, and he had to figure out how to learn to live with that, because the scriptwriter wasn't going to foist a thoroughly unrealistic change of heart on the protagonist. Even after the person she was in love with left and wasn't coming back.

My impression is that trying to depict unrequited love that doesn't BECOME a typical ship, with a straight guy as the one in love, is still kind of a big deal.

I poked around a bit and an IMDB trivia note on the movie says the replacement song is a cover version of "The Man That I Love". I hope this is correct and helps you find it!

Jenny Agutter is actually a pretty famous UK actor. And American Werewolf in London, where I first saw her, is a movie I love, so I always knew who she was. But I will admit, those habits are fairly concealing.
