Prefacing this to state that I DO love AO3 and am genuinely happy to read and post fics on there - but between the downtime and reading the things that are going on behind the scenes of the sites maintenance; ngl I get nervous. So I've been looking into alternatives to at least upload my fics onto another site.

Still have yet to look into Wattpad again since the last time I did that I got a bit overwhelmed. Was looking into Quotev and was tempted to post in for one of my smaller fandoms - but heard rumors from people who had used the site that sometimes fics get deleted for what would seem to be no reason other than the few claiming it was to 'free up space' on the site.
I would like to see if my old ffnet accounts are still standing and if I can log into them at all - otherwise idk about creating a new account. It feels like its days are numbered and would possibly just delete the site out of the blue with no warning one day.

Actually considering going to look for a fanfiction tag-template and just start uploading my fics onto here Livejournal style. I know there's no reason why not other than my fandom doesn't really exist here - but then at least my works would be uploaded elsewhere (not going to get into it, but right now I don't have a writing program so I've been literally writing on the AO3 site for the past year :'D so I haven't been able to save it all onto a usb or anything either).

SFW can go on FFN but otherwise there just aren't any options. Once AO3 materialized everything centralized there. I do know a lot of people are making Neocities and are storing their fics there and there's an interest in reviving fandom specific archives and personal websites (I personally recommend these!) but they are still in the planning stages or are otherwise primitive. It'll be a while yet before alternatives start appearing. Otherwise DW is the only alternative.

NSFW goes on fanfiction.net under the M rating. Has done for years.

And is subject to getting nuked without warning. My fic all predated that and some escaped getting deleted for many years but it’s all gone now.

You can still get bopped for porn iirc

It'd have to be very extreme and nasty sort of porn for that to happen. You are more likely to get zapped for script fic than porn. And rightly so, script fic is an abomination.

What if some devilish devil combined porn with sciptfic? :eyes:

Oh don't get your panties in a twist I do use ad blocker when I do go on there it - its just also a very shit site.

But, question for you: I keep reading that people ought to use TOR, for various sorts of anonymity. But all the stuff I've read about "how to TOR" warns against making your browser stand out in any way by applying firefox add-ons. So I'm stuck between saying "fuck it" and installing Ublock Origin, and having to see all the ad-garbage. And deal with the security risks that come with having that load.

What do you do? And if anyone else feels like weighing in, what do other nonnies do?

I use my DW as my fic archive, I’ve never found any other alternatives.

What’s going on behind the scenes with the AO3 maintenance? I’m super out of the loop I guess.

If you go to the AO3 homepage and click to read the comments in the site's news bit; there's been quite a few resignations from the board members with an election coming up - and A LOT of commenters have been talking about how certain board members had been openly racist to their volunteers among other shady stuff. It's possibly getting sorted out but there's people who seemed to be a bit more i the know being critical about some of the actions being taken.

Source for board members (which?) being racist (how?) to AO3 volunteers?

Surely even Notepad/a notes app would be better than just writing on the AO3 site, and you could at least email it to yourself or something.

my tablet is unable to update any more for the past 3 years so no notepad and can't download apps onto it any more. I guess I could email my porn to myself, but I don't want to do that.
