Every time I see House of Leave mentioned I think of the play House of Blue Leaves and how much I like it. If you have a chance to see it performed, I recommend it.

God I hate that book so much. At first I just didn't care for it in a "meh, not for me" bit over the years the fans of it have become so annoying and so pushy that I hate just the idea of that dumb book.

I figure it's a combo of things:

1) fandom is used to that older man/younger woman pairing from old Who, it doesn't even register for a lot of people as a Thing.

2) Pop culture in general is also very chill and normalized about this type of pairing.

3) General love and nostalgia for Doctor Who = nostalgia goggles and blinders about its flaws when it comes to a certain percentage of the fandom.

TBF, that's very much a New!Who thing, both the 'saving' and the couching the Doctor/Companion relationships with romantic elements (especially RTD's era, good grief). It also didn't help(/hurt?) that the 9th and 10th Doctors, which is to say the first Doctors of New!Who and thus most people's first introduction to the character, both look young and conventionally attractive.

So for those who have the older man/younger woman kink, it's baked into the narrative, and for those who don't, it's easy to ignore or pretend that element doesn't exist in favour of Manic Pixie Dream Tennant or whoever.

Agreed. Lord John's obsession with Jamie* is one of the most annoying, least interesting parts of his character. I liked his mystery series because it allowed him to develop beyond that. Maybe not having Jamie and/or Claire as significant characters in that series also helped keep Gabaldon's crazy-for-my-OTP tendencies in check, too. All I know is that IMO, they're far more readable and cohesive than the Outlander series, which is one giant fanficcy soap opera.



* Which is part of a larger, irritating and ongoing obsession with Jamie from Gabaldon herself where she's ride or die for him and it makes sense to her to have multiple other characters feel the same way. I hate this.

Lazy, dumb as fuck shitty bait but I'll bite just because:
I know several Ukrainian people in fandom and irl. Guess where they often have a lot of family. Guess how much that family is happy about the war.
Also, fandom is made up of a lot of queer people. You know, the ones the Russian government would be all too glad to just stick in cute little camps.

Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made. I'll monitor this thread until tomorrow's secret post goes up, so feel free to leave your comments until then!
