I don't care what people prefer. But I find anyone who goes on and on about how one is automatically superior to the other absolutely insufferable.

Same experience with my best friend! He says that he spends so much time focusing on reading he can't take in anything else.

I liked Agent Kallus' redemption arc in Rebels. They set it up perfectly with him being a competent officer and a true believer in the empire, and it was in large part that competence that led to his disillusionment as all the various fuck ups, corruption, and deliberate cruelty [as opposed to ruthlessness in pursuit of actual purpose] were as much a factor in him switching sides as the warmth and decency of the Rebels themselves. Neither factor alone could have made him turn, but seeing the empire's wastefulness and the Rebels honorableness both combined into making him be the better person.

Same here

honestly as a long time fan, Sanji has always been my least favourite straw hat…until the live action.

Zuko will never be topped for me in terms of redemption arcs

I've been an m/m fan for 20+ years and have NEVER cared about "who tops"... as long as everyone gets an orgasm, it's all good! These arguments have always baffled me, too.

Top/bottom discourse being a thing at all confuses the Heck out of me tbqh, and I'm at least 75% sure it's not entirely because I'm asexual.

Jimmy and Kim in Better Call Saul.

For a side character, Charles Brandon in The Tudors. He's King Henry's best friend and they both start the series as shallow fuckboys, but Charles' personality matures and evolves over time, while Henry just becomes more of a corrupt tyrant.

What's Oda's serious problem with women in real life?

The only thing I know of is his interview with Watsuki for the Rurouni Kenshin event. But considering that Shueisha gave Watsuki his job back immediately and has no problem celebrating him still (see: the Rurouni Kenshin event) I'd say the industry is already plenty corrupt.

I like subs because I have a hard time understanding most speech.

good choice.

At this point I think it's a form of obligatory bullying.

One description I heard was that the female characters were identical except for hair and clothes, while the male characters were all designed by a random number generator.

>Sanji in the live action is everything I could have hoped for. He's amazing and since Sanji is the showrunners favourite character I'm confident that he'll keep being amazing and adorable in the live action. Definitely my favourite version of Sanji

And since it is made for a 2023 US audience, the perv stuff will probably never be a thing. This isn't 80s Hollywood anymore thankfully.

Same. I'm ambivalent about the weird-looking characters, because I can accept that as stylistic, but every woman looking Like That? No thanks.

I'm so done with the Obligatory Pervert character in shonen series, and was so very pleasantly surprised by Sanji's upgrade. "Being attracted to the female characters" was never the problem, what a shocker.

I'm a very fast reader but still will find myself "following along" with the text instead of taking in visual detail ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ my eyes love the printed word

hmm, apparently I'm going to continue being odd man out in hating the LA and being a lifelong manga/anime fan and Sanji-lover. time to take my hat and leave fandom, I guess.

I don't think anyone is wrong for not liking that trope, and not wanting even an ounce of it in their orbit. fair. clearly, no amount of seeing Sanji as a fully fleshed-out character with nuance and trauma and legit times where he supercedes his bullshit is going to convice anyone who is already certain that he's just a pervert-trope and nothing else. But by god are all yall missing a shitload of context because hurr hurr boobs. Whatever. Not a hill I'm going to die on, I'm literally going to put my hat on like Grandpa Simpson and leave the brothel now.

In my case, it's because I legit did not know that was even a debate or topic of discussion before entering fandom spaces years ago, and even now, with all I have read and learned about the topic, I still don't feel like I have enough proper knowledge or understanding of the topic to really have a strong opinion one way or another. I've no problem with people having preferences or not having preferences, but yeah, I still just stay out of the debates simply 'cause I just don't care one way or another.

Plus, I also agree with the whole obvious thing of it being fiction and it's not that deep and people should do what they personally want with their fics and all that, too.

Same, no matter how good the acting is I just cannot watch live-action dubs because the mouth flaps will distract me. Animated dubs are fine.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-24 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have very strong preferences for all my ships, but that's a me problem. I don't understand people getting all het up about what other people write. Just move on.

He tries to sneak into bathing rooms to peep on naked women. Kind of more that "hurr hurr boos".

Jaime on GoT had a great redemption arc going on but then those final seasons happened. :/

Walter White on Breaking Bad was a great downfall arc.

I also love the Michael's arc to becoming the Godfather.
