What budget thing would you still do/buy even if you won the lottery and became a millionaire?

For me, it'd be instant ramen, a guilty pleasure of mine. I just love the stuff and always have, but try not to eat it too often because of the sodium content and my blood pressure. (And yes, I know I could not use the packet, but that defeats the purpose of it for me.) How about you?

I wouldn’t change much. I’d invest the money in a house or bank account and it would just be there in case I wanted it. Being on the poor end of society has taught me to keep what I win. I think the most I would do is get a Sausage and Egg McMuffin.

I'd probably still go to dollar stores, tbh.

And that's how you keep your millions, girl.

Great Value Artisan Crafted Macaroni and Cheese, Smoked Gouda

It's 2$ at walmart and I fucking love it. Unless I ever get Personal Chef money I'll have it once a month.

Kirkland Brand Everything- It's just better than name brand.

All their artisan mac and cheeses are delicious. I love the garlic and herb.

Coupons, sales, slow fashion.

Honestly I wouldn't do anything too differently if I won the lottery I would just do the same things more happily and comfortably. Like, buying expensive chocolate and not feel guilty about it. That kind of stuff. (Nah not ashamed of having a sweet tooth. The toothaches are painful though so I would love to have more money to get my teeth treated)

Instant ramen and other convenience foods would still be on my list, too. Maybe not as often, because I could go to half time at my job (which I mostly like) and have more time for cooking.

Also thrift store clothes and used books and media, because hunting for them is fun, and it would be less frustrating if I did end up having to buy new stuff because I couldn't find anything used.

Multipacks of cotton undies because no one sees them but me so idc about fancy or sexy underwear.

My house; I'd just have money to fix all the stuff wrong with it, bring it up to code, and get solar panels for the roof. It's idk, ~850 square feet? and I don't need a huge mansion.

I'd still live in my apt bldg but I'd buy it, fire most of the people working here now and replace them, hire some security guards and evict this one dickhead neighbor.

Store brand/generic OTC meds

I'd still go thrift shopping

I'd just keep going to my local grocery store, probably, which I'm sure is 'budget' by millionaire terms. I also can't see myself only switching to designer clothes or anything like that.

Worst character arcs

[personal profile] philstar22 2023-09-26 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Opposite of yesterday's thread. What characters do you think had the worst arcs? Whether because they were uninteresting, badly done, or just the wrong arc for the character.

Jaime. Bran. Tyrion. Jon Snow. Cersei. Most of the GoT cast, tbh.

Oh man, billy from Stranger Things. It wasn't even a *character arc*, he was just a racist douchebag with a last minute heroic sacrifice, and there was nothing compelling about him that made it emotionally impactful. Trying to lay in a sympathetic backstory just felt annoying because by that point... he wasn't just a jerk/bully who could come around, and he didn't only do horrible things while possessed, like his baseline was racist child-endangerer and at NO point did we see any remorse for any of that?

First thought was Sylar on Heroes, although that was less of an arc and more of a wavy line.

Gaius van Baelsar in FFXIV. He's straight-up an actual fascist who never, ever renounces those views, but gets a weird gross "redemption arc" that involves him having horrifically abused and killed children, but he kinda feels bad about that.

Like... I don't know how to tell people that just because he also helps out a bit in taking down the Empire, he still wants fascist rule of Eorzea. He thought Varis wasn't fashy enough!! How does anyone give him a pass??

Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother) and Ross Gellar (Friends) seemed to get progressively more insufferable as the seasons went on and honestly didn't seem to learn much.

Adalind Schade (Grimm) - the writers were a little too enamored of her and just sort of presented her as redeemed without an actual redemption arc (because the pregnancy brought about by her intimate fraud rape fixed everything, I guess?).

Basically everyone in the MCU.

Hux and Fynn. One was a throwaway villain who could have been kinda interesting but was relayed to the butt of every dumb as fuck joke and a silly comic relief, the other started out as a potentially interesting deuteragonist and was banished to bland uninterersting NPC status.

Robin and Barney from How I Met Your Mother, both as individual character arcs and the arc of them as a couple.

Two people terrible at committing and relationships grow together and mature as individuals and a couple and then the last episode is a jump cut to the two of them shrugging their shoulders like, "Welp, time to revert back to season 2 versions of ourselves."
And then the added insult of "Barney sees his offspring and makes a grand speech" as his series ending moment. Alongside the shit ending Robin got.

Like, I don't even consider myself a fan of the show (casual viewer, didn't go out of my way to watch but always enjoyed watching it when someone had it playing) and the last episode of HIMYM still managed to piss me off. I felt like they wasted so many seasons to piss all over it to get that convoluted ending.

So many for Game of Thrones but the one I'll name is Petyr Baelish. What a waste.
