I always remember her saying it was okay for an invading colonialist force to bomb the motherfucking shit out of an indigenous people's children's hospital. She was always trash.

Context IS fun. For example, Hamas is a group using horrifying violence to defend a people who are being actively colonised and displaced and win back that land, and Israel is a state using horrifying violence to actively colonise and displace those people. Sometimes even the same act of violence can look a bit different in context, depending on the intent and effect...

LonerBox on YouTube has some good, even-handed, research-based videos on the Israel-Palestine conflict for anyone who is interested in more context.

are you afraid of saying it was Israel and Palestine because people might disagree if they knew what you were talking about?

Whoa there nelly

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's just take a minute to think about how wild this anon is being in how they are sharing "facts". You are part if the problem dear nonny.

Which anon are you talking about?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I always forget about that video and then when I'm reminded of it my soul just tries to escape my body. What a terrible terrible "cultural" moment for humanity.

I personally don't like Gal Gadot because she is a very poor actress. I haven't seen a single movie where she acts "well", so I have no respect for her professional ability.
OH, and her political comments are trash, too. Not only because I disagree with her, but because of how she expresses them. Like. Could you not???

I just hope that with DCU getting killed we will see less of her.

(hope this makes sense. I'm under pain meds rn so...uh)

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What is it about John Lennon's "Imagine" that has rich people using it as their cry out for humanity?

I still get a laugh out of it. I don't think I've ever watched anything Gal Gadot has been in so I have no strong feelings toward her as an actor. I generally found the video to be so out of touch and typical for a well meaning rich famous person. Like, this was a MadTV skit from 2005 but instead it was real life in 2020.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
“Imagine” is what it has always been. The only difference is how much you like the rich person doing the crying.

That video was awful! My political gripes with her are a bigger reason for my dislike of her as a celebrity. The video certainly didn't help. So out of touch and awkward.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I think a lot of people kind of... stumbled into the same insensitive faux pas pit at the time. Because if you're rich and don't have to work to feed/clothe/shelter yourself or your family, the pandemic lockdown was nowhere near as hard for you as it was for the people who suddenly found themselves without any kind of income, or worse, fired and then without health insurance during a pandemic.

So while a lot of celebrities were all like, "We can do this, stronger together woooooooo!" with lots of cheery pep talks, it might've been well intentioned but it conveniently overlooked the fact that no, we're NOT all in the same boat, some of us are riding out the storm on well stocked yachts and some of us are in leaky rowbeats with a broken oar, being circled by sharks.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-02 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
CLOSE ALL BORDERS.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I will never understand why people are so bothered by that video. Those celebs tried to show compassion and failed miserably, that's it. Their cringy, out-of-touch effort to reach out didn't hurt anyone, so why keep hating them for embarrassing themselves in a video they made years ago?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just very bad timing. I think it drove home how different their concerns are from what the majority of people were dealing with during early pandemic days, and rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. The compassion came across as very phony even if the intentions may have been good. It may not be the biggest deal— as you said, no one got hurt. But it left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths that as the secret and responses show, still hasn't faded.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
People tend to remember who kicks them when they're down. I'm not saying that's a good thing or a bad thing, but, you know, it's definitely a thing that happens.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly? I lost any shred of respect for every single piece of shit in that video who thought they’d gift the world with their encouragement. The sheer ego involved is nauseating. “Oh poor me in my mansion with my fully stocked pantry and overfull giant fridge and millions of dollars. We’re all in this together! You don’t have even a fraction of the security I do but I’ll sing you a song because we’re the same!” Fuck them. Every last one of them.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't malicious as far as I could tell but holy hell could it be any more tone-deaf. Well-off celebs pretending like fucking Covid was a vacation where the worst inconvenience was that you didn't get to go out. When in reality, the rest of us weren't guaranteed job security, and potentially a housing situation. And some of the ones who did get to keep their jobs were overworked and treated like shit by Karens and Kevins and Korporations (haha) alike, and instead of being better compensated for it, they were called "essential" and other dumb shit.

I don't hold it against those celebs but I hope that they (and anyone else witnessing the cringe in action) learned a lesson that day.

Dolly Parton and Tom Hanks donated money and blood towards finding a vaccine. The Imagine Choir of Good Feels could have done at least that, not sing a terribly off tune accapella karaoke.

I was far more uplifted by Hanks and Dolly and would gladly applaud that.

I think it was a reminder how out of touch rich people are from the rest of us, especially those with little resources and finances.

Yeah, must be easy to think of a happy utopia where all we do is sit at home and record ourselves singing a lyric to a John Lennon until this whole "social distancing" thing is "over".
Some of us still had to go into work while the majority of people remained at home. We had to put on masks and wash our hands and deal with people yelling at us for following guidelines and trying not to catch this deadly disease.
Some of us were stricken with grief constantly hearing of family/friends/neighbors/coworkers going to the hospital and/or dying and we couldn't be there for them or their loved ones.
Some of us were terrified that we had no way to pay for food or shelter, much less knew if we would have that??

Like, if these rich folks really wanted us all to "make it through this" they would have opened their wallets up and given money to people on the brink of destitution.

But we know that's not going to happen so celebrities deserved that public dragging.

(Anonymous) 2023-10-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
jesus christ you'd think she kicked a puppy on screen or something it was at worst tone deaf and dumb
