Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Why does jury duty have to start so early? I'm totally cool with being on a jury. But 8AM? On a Monday? And it is 45 minutes away, which means I will probably have to get up before 6.

Re: Jury Duty

You know what they call people who get up at 5am?

People with real jobs.

The only excuse for complaining about getting up at that perfectly normal time is if you are a night worker, and thinking about going to bed about that time. Are you a night worker, Nonny?

Re: Jury Duty

Why do you need to pick a fight with someone on this? For one thing, a LOT of people who do shift work don't get up at five in the morning, a thing you readily acknowledge.

There are also people who work remotely for their 'real jobs', and not only do they not have to get up at the ass-crack of dawn to commute, they may well be on a totally different clock depending on just how remote the work is.

For that matter, people who are retired, disabled, or un- or under-employed fully deserve basic respect.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly those people deserve basic respect, but someone complaining about court starting at 8am should probably stop to consider that a good lot of people are arriving to work that early on a daily basis -- including those working at the court they're commuting to.

I work what would be called a "traditional" job (logistics in a warehouse) and I don't get up at 5am. Waking up at 5am has never been the tradition unless you are commuting two hours and need an hour to get ready (
it's 9 to 5 not 6-3).

Re: Jury Duty

What? No. My work starts at 8:30 and I still only get up at 7. I taught myself how to get ready as fast as possible. I am not a morning person. Some of us just don't function well in the morning.

Lol, I don't get up until 40ish minutes before my start but I only work 10 minutes from home.

If you're able to get ready as fast as possible, then why do you need to get up at 6? What are you actually doing to "get ready" each day?

My work starts at 7:30. I also work from home, so there are some days when I get up at 7:30, too...

I AM morning person and 5 is to early. Especially in winter.
Also my grandparents had their small farm and this early of a morning was only for summer, they had shifts and had a big period of rest between morning hours.

Someone needs to read up on natural sleep schedules... Your inborn ability to get up at 5am doesn't make you superior in anyway. It's the same as having brown eyes.

Damn, you okay, anon? I have a real job and I don't get up until 7:00.

Pfft. DOE is the main employer in my town, so over 60% of the residents work from 4am to 4pm Monday through Thursday.

Re: Jury Duty

Jury duty sucks. I'd rather go to work and I don't like my job that much.

Re: Jury Duty

I like my job, but I like jury duty. But I know most people don't. Also pretty sure I won't be selected.

I've never been called for jury duty and I kind of want to just once for the experience lol. On the flip side, my best friend has been tapped like... a dozen times in the 20 years since we've met? I joked last week if there was truly no one else in California or they keep forgetting that they just called her.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I would hate that! I’m a total morning person and an early riser but I’d still hate that. It’s just an unnatural start time. And I have this built in need to be everywhere 15 minutes early so that would be even worse :(

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
I hated doing jury duty when I was last called on it because the public transport that I had to use to get there sucked no matter how early I tried to get there at after dropping my brother off at day care, and I kept getting threatened about being fined for being late as well as having to sit through a case about a multi-rapist who targeted teenagers.

Oh damn, I feel the pain of committing all that time for jury duty. Hope it's a fast day for you!
