Re: Jury Duty

You know what they call people who get up at 5am?

People with real jobs.

The only excuse for complaining about getting up at that perfectly normal time is if you are a night worker, and thinking about going to bed about that time. Are you a night worker, Nonny?

nayrt - OK boomer.

Re: Jury Duty

Why do you need to pick a fight with someone on this? For one thing, a LOT of people who do shift work don't get up at five in the morning, a thing you readily acknowledge.

There are also people who work remotely for their 'real jobs', and not only do they not have to get up at the ass-crack of dawn to commute, they may well be on a totally different clock depending on just how remote the work is.

For that matter, people who are retired, disabled, or un- or under-employed fully deserve basic respect.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly those people deserve basic respect, but someone complaining about court starting at 8am should probably stop to consider that a good lot of people are arriving to work that early on a daily basis -- including those working at the court they're commuting to.

Nah. If I am being forced to do jury duty, I'd also complain about it.

You're assuming OP doesn't/has never had a job that starts at 8 AM, or doesn't know that people work at 8 AM.

You sound like those "EAT UNTIL YOUR BELLY IS BURSTING BECAUSE KIDS ARE STARVING IN AFRICA" people from the 80s. OP's complaint has NOTHING to do with people who get up at the asscrack of dawn to go to work. I say this as someone who used to get up at the asscrack of dawn to drive an hour and fifteen minutes to my job ONE WAY, every weekday for a year.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Here's the thing-- when I last had jury duty, they only paid you if you came in two days, the first day was pure civic duty. I would HELLA complain about having to get up at five AM to go sit in a crowded room full of strangers for free when my normal incentive for waking up early might be, you know, a paycheck. And even when they do pay you, it's peanuts.

I work what would be called a "traditional" job (logistics in a warehouse) and I don't get up at 5am. Waking up at 5am has never been the tradition unless you are commuting two hours and need an hour to get ready (
it's 9 to 5 not 6-3).

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've never once had to get up at 5 for a 9-5 job. Not sure where anon is getting that idea from.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
What? No. My work starts at 8:30 and I still only get up at 7. I taught myself how to get ready as fast as possible. I am not a morning person. Some of us just don't function well in the morning.

Lol, I don't get up until 40ish minutes before my start but I only work 10 minutes from home.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I work 45 minutes from home. Then again, if I didn't have a cat, I'd probably only get up 55 minutes before I have to go.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
If you're able to get ready as fast as possible, then why do you need to get up at 6? What are you actually doing to "get ready" each day?

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Work is 45 minutes away, so I leave at 7:45. I use 45 minutes to get dressed, make coffee, feed the cat, make sure all my work stuff is together, grab my lunch out of the fridge, and drink some of the coffee so I feel comfortable driving.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
My work starts at 7:30. I also work from home, so there are some days when I get up at 7:30, too...

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Haaaaahhh this is me doing wfh, the first thing I do at my desk in the office is read emails that came in overnight from the west coast, so it's also the first thing I do when I'm home... on my phone, as I roll out of bed, make breakfast, drink my coffee, etc.

Same labour either way!

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I've had to work from home a few days occasionally. Since I have a cat who is a total lap cat, it isn't really conducive to getting things done.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I AM morning person and 5 is to early. Especially in winter.
Also my grandparents had their small farm and this early of a morning was only for summer, they had shifts and had a big period of rest between morning hours.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Someone needs to read up on natural sleep schedules... Your inborn ability to get up at 5am doesn't make you superior in anyway. It's the same as having brown eyes.

Re: Jury Duty

(Anonymous) 2023-12-04 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, you okay, anon? I have a real job and I don't get up until 7:00.

Pfft. DOE is the main employer in my town, so over 60% of the residents work from 4am to 4pm Monday through Thursday.

Every time you write a bitchy comment on here, I read it in the voice of Eric Cartman.
