I've got one, maye you do too? Change the Subject line to your topic and ask away.

Where would you go for a January vacation?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
I unexpectedly will have most of January off of work so I'm thinking of taking the time to travel somewhere. But I have no idea where to go! My next big travel was going to be Ireland but January doesn't seem like the best time to go there.

I'm along the east coast US and I'd be travelling alone, if that info makes any difference in your suggestions.

A beach. Somewhere warm and with a beach.

I went to Scotland in a November and it actually wasn't bad. The Atlantic keeps things pretty warm. Granted, climate change and all that, so ymmv.

IMO Paris is lovely in the winter.

Iceland! It costs half as much to go in January. Most of your winter outerwear is made to keep you warm in harsher weather than even Iceland, so you probably won’t have to shop for anything beforehand. And when you get home, your local winter won’t feel as cold.

It's summer in New Zealand, a gorgeous country with incredible scenery and very friendly, chill people.

Tucson, Arizona. There’s a zoo/wildlife preserve there called the Sonoran Desert Museum and January is a fabulous time to visit the desert. You can visit the Saguaro National Park, the Pima Air museum, take a drive out to Tombstone, and you won’t die of the heat. It’s beautiful this time of year.

Whats the popular fantasy of scifi fandoms these days?

I feel so out of the loop.

I had no idea either, but this is what Amazon reports as bestsellers:

A lot of Sarah J. Maas on there, sadly.

Are Zeus and Jupiter the same god?

Or are they distinct gods with similar attributes and myths?

Your Day

(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
How's your day going?

I had identity theft attempted at me. And not just steal your credit card type of theft. Someone got a bank account with my name on it and got checks made for that account and then tried to get my office's payroll person to switch my direct deposit over to that bank account. I'm honestly a little impressed. And a little confused as to why someone would go to so much trouble for my check as I don't make that much.

My work laptop decided that, even though nothing has changed, the battery would not only stop charging, but forget that it was plugged in all together. Less than two hours after I started work it died. IT was completely useless. They literally asked me if it was plugged in. Like... yeah....THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

It's well into the night and I feel like my day is just now starting because a everything has been a slog to get done today. I gave up around lunch, pushed everything to tomorrow and played games on my phone. Now I feel bad about it, but it was probably a good call.

The mail company is saying that a package of mine was delivered even though I didn't receive anything, so hoping to get this sorted out too. Not feeling particularly bad about anything, so who knows why I feel so low energy, mew.

I had some asshole stick me with a thousand dollar bill for a year before debt collectors informed me about it. Filed a report with the company that let the thief do that and put a fraud alert on my credit. Haven't heard shit since, and probably never will, because modern companies refuse to leave a number for you to check up on the situation, and discourage people from filing a second report because it clogs the works. Ugh.

As for today... work was total ass. But at least I got a couple of things resolved.

No idea what to expect of the rest of the week but I'm guessing I'll be doing someone else's job again tomorrow and possibly Thursday because otherwise shit would pile up. But to be fair, everything is chaotic and in a period of transition and it's pretty much a miracle if anybody remembers everything they're supposed to do during the day. Still, I'll need to bring this up soon.

The restaurant at lunch accidentally served me teriyaki pork instead of chicken. I didn’t realize until after I ate a piece. I’m deathly allergic to pork, so my lunch date with my husband turned into a $3700 hospital visit and we got home 7 hours late.

Well I've been dealing with my twisted ankle and sleeping a lot. Today is also a hard day for me, not as hard as it was right after. My mom died 4 years ago on this day. I tried to avoid posting on facebook and pretending I was sleeping but.. then I posted a memorial post. And.. I felt good about it. <3 It felt cathartic.

It was OK. Work was busy and went by fast.

I dropped of a belated gift to a friend. It made me feel better. Lately been feel really insecure with my closest friends. Visiting one them and talking to them made me feel a bit better. Maybe I'm in my head too much about where I stand with this friend.

I just feel so drained from the world. Every day I feel like there's a clock tracking time and I never have enough time. I fucking hate it but I don't know how to stop it.

Okay, so, there is a version of "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" from Wizard of Oz that has more lyrics. Something about following a dream I think. But I can't for the life of me find it anywhere, either via Youtube or Google.

Maybe this one?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"This song also appears in the record The Wizard of Oz In Story and Song, sung by the Happy Time Chorus as well as Disney World's 25th Anniversary special, sung by Michael Jackson. The lyrics for the first part are slightly different, but the rest is just like the 1939 movie.

Follow the yellow brick road.
Follow the yellow brick road.
Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road.
Follow the rainbow over the stream.
Follow the fellow who follows a dream.
Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow the yellow brick road."

Cassian Andor has made me give up on Star Wars once and for all

(Anonymous) 2023-12-06 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
So, Cassian Andor had a backstory 7 years ago.

A year ago, they gave him a show. The show changed his backstory, which was annoying. It gave enough nods to the former backstory that the two could kind of coexist; and the writing on the show was decent, making it easier to swallow the fact that they'd made some changes to rhe character. But it was still...annoying.

Well. Now they've changed him again, because I guess someone somewhere decided that Diego Luna looks too old. He's been aged up, and now the disaster on Kenari is pre-Empire.

So now we have a guy who at nearly 30 is living with mom, acting like he's young dumb and full of cum, and is apolitical, but who supposedly becomes a super spy within a few years...and also lambasts a woman 11 years his junior, a woman who was an actual child soldier, for being apolitical, saying "I've been in this fight since I was 6 years old," a statement that has become a bald-faced lie.

He started out being a child soldier himself; he started out as a man who's spent 20 years, the bulk of his life, fighting. And they've turned him into a manchild, because they clearly have no idea what they're writing at any given moment. They don't understand why it is that people connect with characters; they apparently think it's all face and name, and that you can wipe away everything else about them and no one will bat an eye.

I held out longer than I probably should have, but there's no reason to be invested in this franchise anymore. What is there for any of us to care about? The galaxy only matters if there are people in it who matter, and there aren't any. They're all just names attached to meat suits.
