same. I enjoy hearing other languages even if I don't understand them, particularly if the language is crucial to the setting.

I watched anime while crocheting, so I always watch dubs since I have to watch my hands. Which is why I can't watch Haikyuu!! because Crunchyroll only has a German dub for some weird ass reason?

Dubs. I watch while crocheting. Can't read at the same time since I need to watch my hands.

I didn't know there was handwringing. Is it coming from Americans? If so, that might be because people are much more aware of international cinema and television. I mean, honestly, there was a time that if you watched a few British shows on PBS, you were 'cultured'. I do think there are fewer American superstars, but I think that's down to the evolving nature of media and marketing.

Do you, or do you not, deny it?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I deny the broad overarching claim that Hollywood and its popularity around the world is cultural warfare

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, yeah these two are... nothing like NiF or TU lol, I even like Ashes of Love but I wouldn't rec it to people who were after something like NiF, it's not the same genre at all.

Subs. I'm old school.

Years ago I'd have said subs simply because the English voice acting was... not great. But as time has gone on and especially these days I can happily watch something subbed or dubbed, at least when it comes to anime, because the dubbing is actually really good most of the time, the VA's do a good job.

Live action stuff however is still subs for me simply because I've tried watching Korean shows with dubs and it's... bad, like atrociously bad that I can't hack. Also when it comes to LA I tend to prefer subs because the mouth movements not matching the lips really bugs me, but that's a personal thing, if that doesn't bother someone and they watch dubbed LA I won't argue with them over it.

Depends! Live action? Sub. Anything set in a real life setting, modern or historical? Sub, absolutely. Anything dependent on regional tropes? If the dub is good, it's the dub, but more likely it's sub. If it's a westernised fantasy or sci-fi, or otherwise completely alien setting, dubs. If it's an animated movie, I'll usually watch it once with each. If it's Yu Yu Hakusho, it's dub.

Misfire!

What's your favorite "guilty pleasure" food?

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine is Sonic burgers. They are so messy but I love one every now and again.

*shrug*
You do you, OP.
Personally, I *hate* dubbed shows. The mouths don't move in sync with the words, and it drives me insane. Much prefer to hear the original language and just read the subs.

Japanese Kit Kats. I'm supposed to hate Kit Kats because I think Nestlé is in charge of them now, but goddamn the flavors are soooooo good forgive me

Dominos pizza. They're trash, but sometimes I just crave a trash pizza.

Subs all the way. I prefer listening to the original sound.

I love to hear the original actor's tones and pitches and emotions in their voice, and i love to hear the original languages, too.

Dubs always sound weird, and the off-track mouth movements are a huge 'no'.

Crisps. In all sorts of flavours and variations. Rarely indulge though. But I love them. Same with fries, with lots of salt, no sauce.

Lol, Dominos is the best pizza in my area since we don't have a local place.

I love potato chips on my turkey sandwiches. Like...such a trash way to eat a sandwich but I love it. The crunch!

This is a concern that was nowhere on my radar.

Deep fried battered pizza, oh so much fat and carbs, but soooooo comforting.

When did Xavier die? I'm so confused....

(Anonymous) 2024-01-06 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you are trying to dance around the truth of it by playing semantics. Hollywood has been, and continues to be, used as an agent of cultural displacement by the US government. Do you think the US Military cofunds Hollywood movies for the fun of it?

DA but as a kid I used to shove chips in my pb&j sandwiches. I loved that extra salty crunch factor!
