You can always block people posting the things you don't like, then you won't have to see them any more.

LOL

If you think fandom is free of politics, then...I don't know what to tell you. Art is inherently political. You can't peel it away, and fandom itself has always been at the forefront of that political struggle. Maybe you just don't like it when your comfort zone is challenged.

I'm pretty sure Toby Fox wasn't thinking about this particular conflict when he first designed this character over a decade ago.

Nah. Crappy fanart still isn't actual activism. Just like shipping isn't.

Fandom has not always been at the forefront of political struggle. This is a thing slacktivists tell themselves in order to feel like they're doing something instead of just supplementing their entertainment with real world events.

Aw, did someone in fandom make you feel bad about decades of murdering little kids? You poor little genocidal Zionist.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-10 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah yes some random user on f!s is in fact the Isreli gov and can control what they do.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, do stop.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Bold of you to assume a pro-Israel fan would go near the word "genocide."

This kind of smugness, this stroking of one's own ego over the suffering of real people, is in very poor taste.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck off, pos.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-10 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Using fictional characters to spread a message about any serious and unrelated real-world occurrence almost always feels disrespectful to me. I think it can be done well, but you have to choose the characters and the real-world issue very carefully and handle it even more so. Most people in fandom aren't doing that.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
as much as i find it odd and cutesifying a serious message, i would MUCH rather the message even get out there, especially to youths who can make a difference and speak loudly and perpetuate the message further.

and at least you know that you're privileged. but it is not "genocide" to spread awareness to a REAL genocide happening right before your eyes. god forbid we try and help others out instead of staying in our cozy little escape while people are being fucking MASS murdered. you're way out of line lol

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it would be beneficial to be more aware of atrocities and just politics in general.

However, fandom is not activism. Activism is activism. Slapping an anti-genocide message around a video game character doesn't stop genocide, action does.

First, it's not spreading awareness. Everyone knows that it's going on.

Second, it does absolutely nothing to stop it, and you are still ultimately remaining in your "cozy little escape." You aren't putting any actual skin in the game; you're sitting comfortably behind a screen, doing the absolute bare minimum.

Third, "from the river to the sea" is itself a genocidal message, which most people spreading it do not realize. The vast majority of youth-oriented activity regarding this issue is incredibly uninformed and oriented toward positions that will perpetuate the cycle of violence, not put an end to it.

Ugh. Ralsei would not be cool with that, even if he is a pushover.

Sadly, appropriating fictional characters for political stuff isn't a new thing.

(Anonymous) 2024-02-11 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
You really don't think Ralsei would be cool with showing his heart and pushing for a resolution to a cause? ...The character who purposely shows you how to save the monsters via the prophecy...? Do you maybe want to re-think this wrong opinion?

I have a feeling some people are misunderstanding the secret. Fandom is a place people go to to get away from the shit that's happening in their lives or in the real world, so it's perfectly acceptable to be annoyed by people dragging in these very loaded subjects into these spaces. We've seen enough pictures of dead children on our feeds all day, thanks, so we need a little time to breathe and relax as well. It's not even a "I don't care" thing, it's a "talking obsessively about this can drive anyone mad" or, what's frankly a lot worse, overexposure can have people stop caring about a situation that they must care about.

So yeah, it would be appreciated if these sorts of issues were kept at the door. We can go back to them after half an hour reading our favourite fluffy fic (or whatever rows your boat) to recharge our energies, you know.

For me it has come to the point where I literally do not care about the whole conflict anymore. I don't know if it's empathy fatigue or I'm just a horrible person (could be both, honestly).

there was another secret about wanting to have fandom getaway and i'll say the same thing here as there: if you're on an unmoderated or lightly moderated space what the space is for is highly dependent on what the crowd wants it to be for and if that thing is not what you want...what you want is not what the space is for.

i think your desires are neutral, privilege or no. i understand why you would be upset. but the truth is that your desires have to fight for space alongside everyone else's and if yours lose philosophically...they lose, and you don't get to pretend yours are worth more or more worthy of being philosophically ascendant in a space.

find a space that moderates to your taste or make a space that moderates to your taste. those are really your options.
