That's what I don't understand! That suddenly you have to change, or that one's whole world-view should be different because of your sexuality...

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-07 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah~ I don't think you're particularily weird...the same sort of decision happened for me and religion? I feel there is the same culture with atheism and agnosticism where if you are one you 'have' to hate Christians, or something...

The whole thing about changing your friends and attitudes just doesn't sit well with me...at all.

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I agree soooo much... I'm an atheist, but whenever I meet up with any other atheists, they're all like "ROWAR RELIGION = RAEP OF MY MYNDE AND 3VIL >=3"
I mean... why can't people just be themselves without ripping into anyone else?
(I swear to god that half of the atheists I've met are actually jealous of those with religion (o god here comes a flame war!!) because they have something to believe. I mean, I don't know where anyone else is from, but in America, religion saturates so much of the culture. I feel like this is so much so that many atheists in this country feel at a bit of a loss, like:
Q: What do they we do with ourselves if we aren't going to sing carols?
ANSWER: HATE THEM.

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I know!! I was reading the "God Delusion" for a college book discussion, and about halfway through I just had to stop...its so condescending about beliefs...I just...couldn't even finish it!

I mean, my family is Catholic, and they pretty much forced me to attend confirmation classes, to be sure I really wanted to drop away from religion entirely, and when I told the people that I was pretty much agnostic, and that I wouldn't be confirmed...they were pretty much like: "wow, you asked the best questions!!" and let me on my way, telling me that they'd always be there for support and the like. ;_; It was so terribly sweet and kind and I still play horn for them on occasion, when I have the time. :)

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah- I mean, whenever somebody hears that I'm atheist, they're all supportive and like, 'here you should read this it is about atheism'... but, but. Just like there are different camps of different religions, there are different camps of atheism.
I mean, yes- the intention is so sweet, so kind. It really helps to know that people care about you regardless of whether or not you believe in something. I appreciate it a lot. (My mom still kind of blames herself, though- she's like, 'IF ONLY I HAD BAPTIZED YOU AT BIRTH DD:')
But I guess it might kind of be like telling a loose kind of Lutheran about this book for Christians, and it's all... strict Roman Catholic and stuff.
Honestly, I'm mostly hesitant to tell people that I'm an atheist because I don't want to be associated with those arrogant, pompous, self-important atheists.

Man, confirmation classes?! That sounds scary, especially for someone that isn't into being Catholic.

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and also- have you heard about the so-called 'religion' gene? Interesting stuff- supposedly, some people are more genetically inclined towards worship than others. XD

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
xDD I know! It can be sweet, but also really daunting in a way as well. Its hard to be patient with every single person who says that, even though you know its all wrought with good intentions. My parents were that way, and I resented them for it for a long time, but I eventually realized that they were just...trying to make sure that I wouldn't "burn in hell" or whatever. Its sweet, and terribly annoying all at once.

Actually, they weren't that bad. At first I felt like I was signing my soul away, but it was really neat learning all kinds of stuff about the religion, and I love theology...it really fascinates me. :)

...religion gene, huh? I'll have to run a quick search on that. It sounds really interesting! :D

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I never really worried about losing my soul- I actually felt much better after I figured out that I wasn't religious, because I'd never really gotten the whole thing. I felt like, 'well, maybe something's wrong with me?' And yeah- my mom was in this weird uber-religious kick when I told her that I was an atheist. She gave me such shit that I ended up lying and spouting off some string-thoery related crap about atoms and quarks and separate dimensions. So, um, I suppose you're lucky that your parents only wanted to save your soul- for my mom, I... well, I don't know why she wanted me to be religious so badly. >,>
(Don't get me wrong- I'm not one of those whiny emo kids. I love my mom and she loves me. But... she never said anything about my soul....)

I've found that it's loads easier to ask people about religion when you're 'non-affiliated' (even though you really are, but whatever). I've learned so much about Judaism and Buddhism and even good ol' Christianity just from admitting (albeit reluctantly, for aforementioned reason) my beliefs.
WE SHOULD BE RELIGION BUDDIES. And KH buddies. ::gleamicongleam::

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I do...when I get to thinking too much; but it happens once In a blue moon, and no religion has really appealed to me... so unaffiliated works out so much better, I think! :D I really feel that I was lucky for my parents to be the way they were about it. There was alot of crying and wangst, but but...I was a teenager. :) I was supposed to be pissed off at my parents about 99% of the time anyways. XD

*nodnod* Oh yeah! I think its because when you're non affiliated, you're willing to listen to all kinds of things about religion, and its just so damn interesting! :D

YES WE SHOULD. AND KH BUDDIES. ♥ *ohmanIlovethaticonsohard*

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I guess sometimes I wonder if I'm royally screwing myself in the long (long, long, long, LONG) term, but then I shrug and figure that at least by then I'll know. XD
Your parents sound cool, especially (not to sound, um, prejudiced) since they're Catholic.

It really is interesting! I totally got why Malcolm X was all, 'hey, waitasec, ummm, ::pilgrimage!:: o ya, okay, nonviolence!' Even if you're not affiliated with the religions, learning all the philosophies and stories behind them is fascinating.

OMG YES. I can't really decide- who's the person down in the bottom? Common sense dictates that it's Rikku, but...?

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here! Oh man, they really are great, I love them to death...although sometimes the morals can be a bit...interesting when they conflict with my own?

Oh yeah, me too! I thought it was a great move for him sans being shot and everything... Everything about it is so interesting, especially since it affects so much of daily life and governments, and everything! :D

Haha, its Xehanort~ totalOT3 :)

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? I'm not going to provide any examples because... um... I don't want to be FLAMED TO DEATHEEEE, but. Yeah.

I, er. I actually never saw the movie. >,>
BUT I READ MANY TEXTBOOKS! Does that make me a bad person? ;_;

Everything about it is so interesting, especially since it affects so much of daily life and governments, and everything! :D
I agree- separation of church and state in this country is a laugh, and, to a certain extent, that's okay. I kind of feel like, when religion in govt starts to interfere with personal choices and feelings, that's too far, though.

Haha, I knew it~ well, no. But I knew it wasn't Rikku. that sounds really hot

ME = FRIENDING YOU OK?

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
XDD Can't blame you? :O

Haha, oh man, trust me, I was in Politics of Religion last semester, and if there's anything more interesting than that...I haven't found it. Its so fascinating, even if mine was only American Government, and International Relations would be even better. XDD

Of course! Denying the OT3 is like denying air? :3 IT totally is. D:

TOTALLY COOL WITH ME I'LL FRIEND YOU BACK!

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hoeeeee, I'm in a terrible Social Studies class right now. Just basic third-year stuff- blah blah blah commies, blah blah blah civil rights rock, blah blah... But the people in it are... man, they lose the internet on a by-the-second basis. To avoid losing any more brain cell connections than I would normally, I read the textbook. It's a pretty recent edition, too, so it's got Gore vs. Bush fightfightfight in it. Fascinating stuff... I miss my Bio textbook, though.
International Relations is like, the flame index of the real world, I betcha. American Govt is prolly, like, the KH fandom or something. Popular, well-known, but easy to find tons of crud in. ...I would make a 'in my pants' joke, but.... there's something so wrong about that, and I don't know why.

International relations get kind of important for me sometimes, though, because I have a Chinese class, and our teacher is, um. Chinese. Naturally, at this point.
So, our previous teacher was from Taiwan and maintained that Taiwan was a separate country. We watched documentaries on it and it was really interesting!
When we got our new teacher this year, we were learning nationalities and countries, and one country's flag was taped off. We were like, 'huh?' and, um. Guess what?
Taiwan. Awkward moment, because Hu lao shi was all, 'Taiwan isn't a country, so I took its flag off.' Meanwhile, we'd all (even the novice 1's, I later learned, in 8th grade) had Lien lao shi last year eduficate us on the countryhood of Taiwan.

DENY DENY DEN- awww, man. I wish there was more good KH2 fic. convince me real hard and i might just join your ship

FAN-TAS-TI-K!

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I hate classes like that!! They're such a pain...that was my World Civ Class in High School, and its such an annoyance...and probably the reason that I would never be able to teach High School social Studies. xD but LOL that analogy is the best EVER. ♥

I took a Contemporary Chinese Politics class over the summer that was so interesting!! I loved it to death, and the teacher was so fantastic that it made me full love love and warmth. Plus, the professor is a communist so...there was actually a lack of the whole: "GRAREVILCOMMIES" issue, although there was still alot about human rights and Tibet and Taiwan...but I didn't mind that because its erm...true. :D

Awww, man, there's like none for my OT3 notthatI'mouttochangethatnosireeIdidn'tmakeacommunityjustforitnope

Woohoo! ♥

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Classes like that make my ears bleed, except not because then I'd be dead. >.>
Are you going to be a teacher, then?
LOLZ LET US COMPARE FRANCE TO SOMETHING.

O, man, I love China and Chinese politics. Interestingly, I actually started out as the normal Japan!fangirl (though I never threw random words into fics, thank god...). I took Chinese in the second year, and... man, I fell, and I fell hard. I'm reasonably good at reading stuff, too, according to Hu lao shi.
Our school is actually pretty cool- we didn't get the whole 'GRAH COMMUNISM' thing. Actually, it's kind a of running joke that every teacher in the SS department is a 'commie red'. XD

Aww, man.... indeed.... do you write? because I do though not for KH but only because I have no inspiration in that area
also, since i write primarily orginal stuff- have you noticed that most orig fic is utter crap?? yes, i know- not nice. true, though.

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe. College Professor, if anything. :D HURR FRANCE TO UH...ANCIENT ROME 'CAUSE THAT'S WHERE ITS GOING AHAHAHAHA

Its so fascinating!! :D Although I can't blame you, I was the classic Japan!Fangirl too, but then I decided that it didn't fit me, and I admit that Politics!Fangirl fits ohsomuch better! :D You're lucky though, we got the grar!communism thing just about every day, its so terrible. :( But lol, I wish all of my high school teachers were like that~ :D

Tragedy, that! :O Sometimes. I do mostly drabbles now...since a college schedule is so...sporatic, but I've been known to write originals...uh...in high school? XD I haven't had a good idea since then, unfortunately. And Yes, I have. Its awful! ._. ITS TERRIBLE. ;-;

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROME!
HAIL HITLER CEASAR!

China is made of win. Win, win, win. Although, to be fair, its comics Do Not Win. They are narration and pictures and- um. Clearly Chinese comic authors have never heard of 'show, don't tell'. ;_;
I love changing classes finding the right fangirl type! It's like becoming an atheist ALL OVER AGAIN MINUS THE WOE!!! Or... with friends like mine, with the woe as well. Oh, you shameful JaPaYun!fangirls.
I personally don't think much of communism, but I was allowed to reach that conclusion on my own. (I don't think much of Communism because it never works, man, and I like things that work.)
Well, don't get too excited- the host of SS teachers also includes a teacher that informed the class of her eternal love for chocolate cake over describing the syllabus, a teacher that regularly plays the guitar before school starts with the case opened for donations, and a teacher that rides a motorcycle to work.
Nutcases? Yes.
Matches in nuttyness for the English host? Never!

Oh, it makes me weep the tears of the thousand orphaned seals... =..(
Drabbles are an art form, I maintain. They're like, ultra-short-short-stories. I assume you've gathered that I'm in high school, so... that kind of makes me laugh. I find myself losing writing time to schoolwork already, and I'm just a junior... WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??? Seriously, the worst people in my AP English class were better than them! If you want to write silly smut, write silly smut- just don't label it an 'epic fantastic adventure'...

[identity profile] ironjill.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
♥ I already love you. ;-;

Haha, yeah, it never works. It never ever does... I'm more of a Socialist than a communist, but few ever really acknowledge those differences very much.
Your teachers sound like... the coolest ever, for serious!!

ORPHANED SEALS!? ;-; Oh yes, they really are. :D And yes, I had, But that's totally cool, because my Junior Year was made of complete busy, and then my senior year was made of lazy and blah? :D Of course...I wrote better than most of the people in the AP English Classes...and I was kicked out of Honors English 2 years before...'cause the teacher hated me. :D

[identity profile] bedlam14.livejournal.com 2007-04-08 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I LURVE JOO TOO, S-tan! Er... well, I suppose I'll have to come up with an Amusing Nickname for you. PERHAPS RIKKU? XD

It was really amusing- at one point, someone in my class was all, "urm, but what're the differences between socialism and communism? i don't get it." The teacher then proceded to make us read the Communist Manefesto, which didn't help many people. HAY MARX NO THANKS ON THE WHOLE 'COMMUNITY OF WOMEN' THING KTHXBAI

My teachers really rock. We all gripe about their weirdness (and believe me, the SS teachers are the most well-adjusted in the entire school) but we love it. Sadly, since I'm. Um. Homeless. We might have a chance to live somewhere else in a city instead of a small town, so we'll prolly be mooooving awaaay. For Senior year. Yeyy.
I'll miss all my druggie fantastic teachers.

YES ORPHANED SEALS WHO WATCHED THEIR MOMMIES GET EATEN BY VORACIOUS YEASTS! (sic XD) does it not just prompt the pulling-out of the pocketbook? I hate it when I see a whole collection of drabbles and am all 'squee!', and then. Then. Then I read them and... people, 'drabble' and 'dribble' are different. One has a point. The other is something that comes out of a baby's mouth.
To my chagrin, AP English is reaaaally overrated. By my calculations, if I do the worst I ever have in all three essays and then get half the questions wrong in the text analysis, I'll still get a solid four. IT MAKES ME SAD.
You should go back in time and attend our school k?!
