How early is too early to go to bed?
(Anonymous) 2024-04-16 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, do you think there is a "too early" for going to bed?
(Let us just assume we are talking about a more traditional type of schedule of getting up in the morning for work, not like 2nd or 3rd shift workers or something.)

(Anonymous) 2024-04-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)I have to take a nap every day because my health problems, lifelong struggle with insomnia, and family responsibilities mean I have to stay up later in the evening than my body wants. I have what I call a sleep window, a short time where I’m sleepy. If I don’t go to sleep during that window of sleepiness, I will be up all night no matter how tired I am. The daily naps help manipulate my body’s sleep patterns so I can take care of my family in the evening and still fall asleep at night.

(Anonymous) 2024-04-17 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)If you require a certain amount of sleep to accomplish tasks in the day ahead of you, then you at least want to get 6-8 hours of sleep. So going to sleep like 5 hours before you need to get up wouldn't be adequate for you to function, much less do much else.
On the flip side, getting in excess of 9 hours a night when there's no need for physical recovery isn't great for your health either.
So say that you had to get up at 6 AM for work/school/whatever your morning routine is... I wouldn't go to bed earlier than 9 PM, and I would try really really hard not to go to bed after 11 PM.
Depression is a horrible bitch and complicates things though. I'm sorry you're going through this.
Re: How early is too early to go to bed?
(Anonymous) 2024-04-17 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)I usually head to bed around 9:30-10:30 pm but a few days ago I went to bed at 8:30 and my morning was *amazing*.
But like, if you're just going to bed to make the being awake stop that's something you should probably a) tell your doctor about and b) try to hold off on a little. I've been there too. Get home at 1630, take a three hour nap, wake up and have dinner, go back to bed for some terrible sleep, wake up at 0630, feel tired all day until my next nap at 1630, hate life the whole time.
Re: How early is too early to go to bed?
(Anonymous) 2024-04-17 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)In summer if I don't have any commitment I sleep way later than usual (3-4AM) and wake up at noon or 2PM, but in winter I go to sleep at 8PM and wake up around 6AM.
This has been going on for decades now so I think my body and sleep circle is very sensitive to cold/hot weather and I need to adjust as much as I can.
If I'm suffering from depression or any other illness I sleep a minimum of 10 hours, so... EH. I usually tend to get 9 hours of sleep, though. I just sleep a lot and love sleeping a lot.
My advice is: if you can sleep a lot and go to bed earlier without screwing up your sleep routine: DO IT. If you are depressed and tired your body need to sleep to fight the inflammation (depression is in large part due to inflammation).
