Re: Generational differences when it comes to how you feel about politics?

I don't even consider those "politics." If you don't believe all people deserve basic human rights, then you're not as good of a person you think you are.

Yes, exactly. Believing in human rights and basic decency is not "politics", it's just being a decent human being.

Unfortunately, it's politics as long as politicians make policies around it. It's not up to you to decide it's not. That's how we get people refusing to do anything to change because they just sit back and say politicians should be doing the right thing without our support or protests. "Uhmmm well Biden SHOULDN'T be supporting genocide to begin with whether or not I protest, so instead of doing that I'm just gonna sit out this election."

No, I think being poorly informed about government and elections in general contributes to that. You can believe politics shouldn't involve debates around basic human rights AND understand that not participating in elections can have severe consequences, especially for marginalized groups.

Yep, this sums up my view as well. That's something that really should not be up for debate of any sort.

DA

But no one gets to decide where other people "just won't go" in their thoughts and discussions. And believe me, it's been tried and tried: there are a lot of laws that look blatantly unjust and absurd to us now, attempting to safeguard the authority of theocrats and monarchs by making it a crime punishable by death to question (and much less debate) it. This did not prevent their downfall.

The more any ideology is shielded from debate, the less robust it is at countering challenge, and the easier it gets to poke holes in it.
