From my reply below: He snitched on all his drug buddies when he got caught with cocaine; he made a deal where he got off pretty easy in comparison, and then later in life took a very hard-line, conservative stance on drug crime. The old "I got mine, fuck you, Jack" attitude. He's a huge douche.

I don't care about any entertainer turning out to be human rather than some perfect paragon. I don't understand why people keep being surprised and upset that actors can be assholes. Stop putting them on pedestals! They don't even actually do anything special; they entertain you for money. They're basically whores, and it's somehow shocking that they're not virtuous?

I agree with some of this, like when a celeb of some kind turns out to be an asshole or just really out of touch and people are surprised I'm so boggled at how devastated some people get. It's one thing if it's illegal, and horribly so like sexual assault or pedo shit, but just being kind of a rude person? Like is that it? I'm not shocked and I don't care.

First of all, there's a hell of a lot of worse things than being a whore.

And second, it matters a hell of a lot what a person's done. And it doesn't mean you can't enjoy their work but it often does impact it. I can still watch and enjoy Chinatown but I like it less knowing what I do about Roman Polanski. And I can't really enjoy Woody Allen movies anymore.

Except that it's entirely possible to be disgusted by a person's actions without having put them on a pedestal first, or indeed, without having a positive opinion of them at all. It's not so much surprise, but a general annoyance that yet again here's another terrible person who has a platform to spew their dumb thoughts and beliefs so people talk about someone/something undeserving of our time and attention.

If I'm forced to have to listen to Tim Allen spew his ignorant, entitled BS, then I feel OK bitching about a fucking famous idiot being a fucking loser.

Not that I do every time a famous person's thoughts hit the zeitgeist, but when I do, I don't feel a need to explain to others why I'm bitching about a fucking loser ass famous person.

Tim Allen's a C-List celebrity at best and the bulk of his jackassery is old enough to run for Congress at this point. Not that you can't make secrets about old, obscure things, but as far as hot takes go, "Tim Allen is kind of shitty" is right up there with "Helena Bonham Carter would have been in fewer Tim Burton movies if they hadn't been dating."
