I remember having an issue with her spending decades with her husband and the father of her children but swanning off into the afterlife with a fling of several days, but that's because 12 year old me was a hater when it came to romance in films.

(Ngl I'm still a bit "really Rose?!" but then again I don't believe in any kind of afterlife so it realistically doesn't actually bother me if that's how you want to interpret the ending.)

But yes, I never thought she did anything wrong. She was in an abusive situation (from her mother AND her intended spouse) and took the opportunity to be free. Good for her. Not her fault everything else happened and Jack sadly died.

It's absolutely her fault that he got arrested. Cal and what's-his-face wouldn't have done that had she not pulled the dumb stunt with the naked drawing.

LMAO

Uh, maybe it wasn't the smartest idea in the world, but in no way is she responsible for the actions of another person. Whatever actions Cal chose to take are on him. This feels perilously close to saying that if she hadn't riled him up, then he wouldn't have hurt her, after all she had to have known what a terrible temper he had and how he liked to be in control, so she should have tried to be as biddable as possible to avoid that. I'm sure she knew there would be consequences. I think she was probably hoping for Cal to call off the marriage (and maybe ruin Rose's and her mother's reputations so that her mother couldn't even hope to marry her off to some other rich dick). There are a million things that Cal could have chosen to do that didn't involve the false reporting of a crime. Was it also her fault Cal was also going to have Jack killed or that he decided to try to kill them both himself? Or was that on the classist, misogynist, morally bankrupt, murderous abuser?

no don't you understand?? rose showed spirit and a sense of confidence to her abuser and that's totally a mark against her!! she knew cal would have jack arrested for nothing and she is totally to blame for everything!! sHE GoT hIM aRrESteD

AYRT

Omg don't you understand?? If someone's an asshole, that means it's perfectly fine to use a loved one against them without your loved one's knowledge!! That's showing spirit! And when consequences fall on your unwitting loved one, well...that's just further proof of the asshole's assholishness. You definitely did not do anything wrong.

Did Jack think that was someone else's safe?

If Cal had reacted positively somehow, would you be praising Rose for her little prank?

There are consequences to every action (and even inaction), but we have no way of knowing what those consequences will be until they happen. You are putting so much responsibility on Rose's shoulders that it seems disingenuous.

No. The point is that you don't deliberately put someone else in the middle of a situation like that, especially without letting the person in on what you're doing. That's what the issue is.

While "this man is an abusive asshole" doesn't mean, "you deserve the consequences of pushing back against him," it also doesn't mean, "anything you do to push back against him is okay." And using someone, without their knowledge, to get back at an asshole is a pretty shitty thing to do.

Oh sweetie you are so pathetic.
