some cheat codes are literally the Easiest Game Mode tho? like, there are games where godmode is the only easy way to experience the story of the game. there are some games that do have a Story mode or a No Deaths modes for that purpose exactly, I don't see why cheats that do that couldn't count as such.

They're really not a thing since achievements / trophies

We don’t actually agree. I’m cool with cheat codes. They’re built in for a reason and whether the player discovers them for themselves or gets them from an outside source, they’re meant to be used by anyone who wants to use them.
But I’m not aware of any cheat codes existing in modern games. And usually when anyone talks about cheat codes for games now, it’s shorthand for hacking, which is not the same thing at all. In the case of hacking, it’s to bypass paywalls and get free access to paid content. And if that’s what the OP means, then I think they really suck.

How do you wash your asshole? I hesitate to use my hands because then I feel like my hand becomes dirty. I mostly just part the cheeks and rinse.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But people hack single player games to give themselves unlimited resources and play at 2x speeds or whatever all the time?

so I looked this up because it’s so wildly different from my experience of going to school there. And holy shit! I had no idea how much it had changed! It seems like the further the state fell in academic rankings, the more sports they removed from schools. Which is weird because the funding is usually primarily from other sources. And even the lowest achieving states have sports programs that boast football teams. It’s also really weird because participation in sports and football in particular have real world advantages for high schoolers.

shout out to Hades literally having a God Mode as an easy mode, it saved my life and is one of the reasons I love this game so much. so thoughtful for us losers ♥

i shower once a day to wash my body but I only shampoo every 3-4 days unless I’ve been sweating.

Hack or mod? Or command console? Command console is not cheating, it’s the PC version of cheat codes. Mods are also not cheating; they create a different gameplay.

Like Stardew Valley is one of the most hackable and moddable games and people actively do this daily for infinite gold or items, are people crying about this being morally wrong somewhere?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Most fics still "warn" for slash (or het, or femslash, or whatever), if they're posted to websites running otw code. There's no functional difference between warnings and other category markers.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'll have to define what you mean by "hack" because if you don't mean "any method where you go into the game code/files/saves/etc and change it" then you'll need to be more specific.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
People hack single player games to avoid micro transactions same as mmos. The shorthand for that is cheat codes.

They mod or use command console to get in game resources (that are already free) faster. The shorthand for that is mods or CC.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
So an 'infinite gold mod' is not cheating, just different gameplay?

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Why are we talking about single player games as though they're all filled with micro transactions?

Am I talking to people who only play mobile games? What is happening

Get in shower
Get hair wet
Condition hair
Wash body
Shampoo hair
Once and a while use exfoliater
Rinse

I shampoo first if I got my hair particularly dirty or sweaty or it just needs a deep clean.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, there is definitely a difference. You can quibble whether it's a functional difference or not but conceptualizing something as a warning vs a tag is absolutely a meaningful difference.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Consoles, actually. I play on every system and on consoles (where there is no command console and very limited mod access) most games now have micro transactions despite being single player. It’s very common to hack those games to get the premium stuff and it’s called using cheat codes.
Phone games get hacked all the time too, but they have from the beginning and honestly I don’t see that ever changing. But I also don’t view mobile gaming as being on the same level as console or PC.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. It has modified the gameplay so you no longer have to earn gold. Personally not my thing but whatever because it’s just the same as the cheat codes from 20 years ago. Which I never saw the point in those but so what? There’s no reason for players not to use them if they want.

(Anonymous) 2024-08-18 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Except nobody is saying people never hack things to get access to premium stuff. I'm saying that playing hacked versions of the game with infinite resources and whatnot is also hacking and can be benign

You can call it whatever you like, but it doesn't change that it's the same thing, simply used for different reasons

The Yankees are the most hated team in baseball - most baseball fans (at least in the Americal League. And LA.) who aren't specifically Yankees fans have a (mostly joking? usually? until the playoffs?) antipathy against both the Yankees and Yankees fans. The Mets are their local rival, out of the same city so it's especially strong for Mets fans - if you're a Mets fan you've chosen specifically to not be a Yankees fan. And it's especially because there aren't really any other MLB teams that are universally hated in the same way. This is partly because the Yankees are both one of the richest teams and one of the most successful teams, so they also attract the kind of fans who only support a team because it wins, and there's also some very specific ancient-history beefs most people don't care about unless they were there (the second game of the 1996 ALCS!!), but it's mostly self-sustaining at this point.

It's basically like if all the hate there is in England for all the top premier league teams were concentrated against just Manchester United, and the secret-maker is a Man City fan (except it's baseball, so people don't care *that* much.) Frankly I admire them for being able to listen to a Yankees game and not root for them to lose.

I’ve seen that! A few times of people thinking a secret resembled a comment they made as part of a discussion and at least one case of someone recognizing their comment word for word submitted as a secret. The defense was that the person behind it was trying to save poor, dying FS. I’ve always thought they were the same person who made a secrets you don’t want to make thread like a day or two after our usual secret maker but then they didn’t make any of the secrets submitted.

"It's not cheating, it's the same as cheat codes"

I'm just gonna stop now. Gl

I couldn't do that. I hate the Yankees so much.

But I'm glad it helps you out, submitter.
