Has a fanfic ever made you cry?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-04 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Which was it?

Re: Has a fanfic ever made you cry?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-04 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to say no, but I have a very vague feeling that there was a sad one that hit me right at the right (wrong?) time and I did cry but I can't remember specifics. Hmmm.

Just once. It was a Steve Rogers fic where he imagined a whole life with Peggy while in the ice and was devastated when he was woken up. The author put the fic in a hidden collection so you can't find it on ao3 anymore (I have it downloaded I think).

Yes, but I can’t remember the name of it. Pretty sure it was a Destiel one though.

I can't find it now, but yes and I know it was an Aziraphale/Crowley fic!

Force Over Distance by cleanwhiteroom and Out of the Cage by Bloody_Wilhelmina. Both were the cumulation of a long long plot and the first was an unexpected title drop that caught me off guard and the second was just the most perfect solution I could think of to the storyline and one I couldn't have written better.

Dozens of fanfics have made me cry. 98% of the things that have made me cry in the past 20 years have been fanfics.

I always cry during the first couple thousand words of Slithering by astolat (Drarry). Another one that always gets me is "Make Whole What Has Been Smashed by gigantic (Johnlock), in which Sherlock experiences time in reverse, like Merlin.

Hell, I cried yesterday reading Smoke Signals by resurrectedhippo (Starker, Peter Whump). I didn't even love this one all that much, but the way Peter's grief, depression, and loneliness were depicted hit a little too close to home.

If you had to never eat one again, which would you choose?

Potatoes or Rice?

Re: If you had to never eat one again, which would you choose?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-05 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Potatoes. Both are very versatile but I feel like rice is more versatile. Or maybe it’s because so much of what I eat pairs best with rice. And plain rice tastes better to me than plain potatoes, which always seem to need something like butter or salt or herbs.

Rice for me. I love fries too much to give them up.

In a perfect world the answer is rice, but unfortunately I can't eat rice so my practical boring real world answer is potatoes.

Rice. I love scalloped potatoes too much to sacrifice potatoes.

Asian, culturally required to keep rice.

RIP to the people who have rice allergies/intolerance over here.

This is genuinely tough, but I'd give up potatoes. I can't imagine never getting to eat sushi again.

Rice probably. TBH I only like rice with sauce on it or if it isn't just plain white rice. Whereas I like potatoes in every version basically.

Rice. You can pry potatoes out of my cold, dead hands.

I ADORE potatoes and I HATE rice so this is easy peasy for me

I love boiled potatoes, mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, baked potatoes, Rösti, Pitepalt, french fries, so, uhm yes. Rice would have to go.

Favourite guilty pleasure movie?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-05 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
What movie do you watch that you like no matter how bad it is?

Mine are 2012 and the 1993 Super Mario Bros movie.

Holdover from yesterday (more follow-up than news)

(Anonymous) 2024-09-05 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Someone wanted to know when Germany blocked the AO3 from Google search results. It's referenced on the AO3's wiki page, under the censorship section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archive_of_Our_Own#Germany

I think I heard about that from TorrentFreak or the unofficial AO3 Reddit, here, https://www.reddit.com/r/AO3/comments/zsgt6v/is_ao3_blocked_from_being_displayed_in_google_in/

And the only reference I could find to its having been un-blocked, later, is here: https://netzpolitik.org/2023/bundeszentrale-jugendmedienschutz-archive-of-our-own-pruefstelle-muss-indizierung-von-fan-fiction-portal-zuruecknehmen/

Signal Boost for a thing

[personal profile] dani_phantasma 2024-09-05 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
So I hesitated posting this here only because like...I was worried about getting in trouble but well I have a very dear friend who.. is in a really bad situation right now and I guess just mentioning it here couldn't HURT

https://www.gofundme.com/f/urgent-support-for-our-friends-safe-relocation

this explains it . it doesn't have pictures for safety reasons because we're worried about our friend's abuser seeing it. We're working on plans on what to do, buying a ticket to relocate , finding other lodgings getting our friend out of the area by a bus, secure a new place for her to stay.

We've made some progress so far but there's still a ways to go Even sharing this link could help us a lot. I hope this isn't against the rules but.. we're really trying to help a friend. As y'all know I still can't really drive and stuff but I do have the means to run a GFM for it. I'm trying to do everything I can because this friend's safety means a lot to me.

Thank you and I'm sorry if I'm breaking rules here. I'm just really worried and .. I haven't been sleeping great for well that and.. other medical reasons. (*cough cough* out of meds and seeing new doctor)
