Nintendo announced Nintendo Music. Was excited to try it but of course it is woefully inadequate. Like....twenty games right now. :/

Also, woke with a migraine at 3am and have been fighting it since.

I finished S2 of Rings of Power and wandered into the discourse of the fandom for the first time and lmao I feel like I've gone back to high school.

'Galadriel's too short!'
'Canon is RUINED being Elrond kissed Galadriel even though it was an obvious ruse to get her a goddamn lockpick and even SHE looked like WTF are you DOING'
'None of this was happening at the same time!'
'The elves are ugly!'
'Why is Galadriel so maaaad she's different from the movies and the books!!!'

There's legit complaints to me made but all of the main ones I see being shouted about are all so insignificant. So what if Galadriel's short? So what if she's angry? Oh, she's different from the books? Well, she's also like 3000 years younger than in LotR and MAYBE might've learned a thing or two in the course of 3000 years. The elves look fine. They're not the ethereal beings of the books and that's okay! Humans are playing them. Adjust expectations accordingly. Also Gil-Galad can sing and he needs to do it more, please, that was great.

The most interesting complaint to me is the one about the timeline being ultra condensed. And, yeah, that's fair. It is basically a speed-run of all the events of that era and while I love it, I can see why it'd be jarring to people. But, also, each season is 8 episodes and they have a max of 5 season for a total of 40 episodes. The elves would be able to be the same throughout the whole show but if we're covering literal eons the dwarves and men, even the long-lived ones of Numenor, would have to keep being recast with new people and new generations and that's just insanely impractical from the pov of a show.

As for Celeborn, I'm curious to see if he'll show up, but I enjoy his strange deviation of literally being MIA. If he shows up, cool, and if not, also cool. He's MIA and no one is ever dead until a body is found so alright, I'll roll with whatever.

... apologies for my rant, I've had a lot of feelings and few places to lob them. Anyway. There's legit things to crit Rings of Power on but most of them just seem to be canon purists gnashing their teeth or Galadriel is short the tragedy the despair the horror.

Why is it at the local fast food place, when I ask for several mayonnaise packets and only one ketchup I get no mayonnaise and five ketchups, and then when I only ask for mayonnaise I get two mayonnaise packets and three ketchups?

Do they just assume everyone wants ketchup so they don't bother to pay attention to the response after they ask if someone wants sauce packets?

The gays* yearn for subtitles during plays and musicals! I know it's not always feasible for that kind of medium, but more plays with subtitles would be great if they can make it work logistically

When somebody misspells a character name, even just in passing. (Secret .06 is driving me up the wall, but I'm valiantly resisting correcting it because I have zero else to say in regard to the secret.)

All the temporary wooden tunnel structures for people to walk through in the under construction areas of the train and bus station smell horribly of pee, and because they're somewhat enclosed (which I guess is why people pee in them), the smell never goes away.

I hate the smell of old rancid pee and it is literally EVERYWHERE in any area that is even slightly enclosed or obscured from the street or sidewalk. And in public elevators and stairwells.

We got a letter yesterday from our power company that we might lose power for up to four hours today. I told my boss and everything, and saved all my work every ten minutes or so. I was so ready for a nap this afternoon, but we never lost power at all. I am disappointed.

i have this red rash on one side of my face that won't go away and it's driving me nuts. i don't know what's causing it and why it's only on the one side (and it's not even the side i sleep on!) i don't know if it's hormone related or what but i wish i could figure out how to sooth it.

also, the damn phone has been ringing all day and it's nothing but scammers. No matter whether I hang up on them, don't pick up the phone in the first place or whatever they never quit.

The lyrics of some song reminded me of how often society at large demonizes women's reproduction procedures even when a fetus isn't involved . I heard a lyric in an already gross song called "Sociopath" about how evil an ex is and one of the lines is 'bet you got your tubes tied"

like.. is getting a tubal litigation to prevent babies that you're not emotionally equipped to raise? Like heaven forbid I NOT want to have kids and risk ending up traumatizing them because I can't handle parenthood? like how is that.. it seems very unselfish to me tbh and self aware?

and it reminded me of a coworker back years ago telling me how "crazy" the lady who founded PETA is (i won't deny PETA is fucked up but...) and he said something about how she 'got her uterus out because she hates humanity and doesn't want to contribute to it" and like ... the way he phrased it made just like a hysterotomy sound liek this insane thing and i'm like well first some women HAVE to get them for health reasons not like a choice, and second even if they do get it done for other reasons.. as long as they get the proper healthcare after, it's all consensual and stuff... who cares WHY? It's her choice???

like even women's health that doesn't involve a fetus are demonized as evil or crazy... like i guess the most heinous thing a woman can do is not make baby..?

I wanted more pumpkins! Last year local grocery stores had pumpkins on deep discount through November, so I think they stocked less this year, because everyone's out.

I have 8 pumpkins already hollowed out, but the first one I cut into was rotten on the inside and idk if it'll be intact tomorrow. And I broke a knife and got rotten pumpkin innards all over myself.

"But anon, isn't 8 pumpkins plenty?" Nope! Last year I carved 12!

Carving 8, or maybe 7 (or none if rats or raccoons or possums get at them tonight) will only get me through a couple Halloween/horror movies tomorrow.

Oh well, Halloween is on a Friday next year. Maybe I can do 31 jack o' lanterns then.

I jumped into another RPF fandom yet again. *sighs*
And small and smallish RPF fandoms just aren't good at writing. I guess all the good authors are chased by antis. I've found decent smut fic and half of the comments were "how dare you". Guh
At least this fandom seems less parasocial than my previous one.

Backpacking, machine embroidery, sewing, Lego, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and reading. Sometimes there is some fandom overlap with some of those but they’re all things I do because I love doing them, any fandom overlap is a nice little bonus.

I'm trying to keep my garden nice. I keep finding these round funguses that grow in the ground and then burst up like pimples, and you have to dig them out... so I save up a few in a bucket, then go out late at night and put them in a neighbor's mailbox, just because their mailbox is attached to their fence instead of the wall of their house and they don't have a Ring doorbell or security camera.

Fic writers getting character birthdays wrong. I understand that they aren't mentioned in the show and you have to look them up online and not everyone wants to do that, fine. But if you also insist on repeatedly referring to a character as 'the younger man' maybe you should actually take a minute to verify that this character actually *is* the younger one.
