Re: Elections/Politics thread
(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 12:10 am (UTC)(link)All right, I'm genuinely interested in the reasoning behind why people would support him. I almost definitely won't wind up agreeing, but I'm honestly interested in the reasoning behind it.
Re: Elections/Politics thread
And I won't get into why people support him. Too broad a topic and I don't want to be fighting off people telling me to kill myself for the next 12 hours.
But you asked about Why support a convicted Felon:
Because we watched the process of lawfare that led to him being given that status as "Felon". We watched 4 years of Piss and Russians, we watched 2 impeachments, one of which was done after he was out of office, we watched the irregularities in the trial, from time to location. We watched the... Hell, one step away from being a kangaroo court and the trumped up charges, and the delays designed by a politically motivated prosecutor and judge to attempt to impact his ability to campaign. And we, frankly, disagree with both the process as it stands, and the outcome.
Did people not support Nelson Mandela? He was a "criminal" too. NO, calm down hateanon, I am not saying "Trump is Mandela" I am pointing out that people vote for criminals if they believe they are innocent of any wrongdoing.
Why NOT vote for a prosecutor instead? I can't be bothered to dig through the internet for the Tulsi clip, but I'm sure you know the one. Just imagine I posted it here.
If that Illuminates anything, I'm happy to help.
If instead all you got from that was "Deranged trump cultist doesn't believe the obvious truth that is clear as day to my educated eyes" (sorry if I seem defensive, but if you're not going to try and make me defend myself, someone else is and I'm fucking TIRED of blind cheery "Maybe I can help them see my viewpoint" optimism.) then I would remind you that two groups of people watched the same Nicholas Sandman footage, and came away with the fixed and unshakable view that 1. The kid did nothing wrong or 2. The kid was shouting Build that wall and harassing a native American elder. It's maybe just time to accept that we live in two different realities, and both of us are sure that our own perceptions are facts while the others is delusion.

Was legitimately expecting to be in for another fight. Thank you!

(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)I hope the leopards well and truly eat your face, and the face of every person you love, so completely thoroughly you come out this a broken man.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 05:14 am (UTC)(link)How is that beneficial?

(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Elections/Politics thread
(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 03:26 am (UTC)(link)But some people who were on the fence voted for him because a.) they can't cope with rising prices and this always happens with incumbent administrations when the economy is perceived to be bad and b.) they are actually affected by illegal immigration in their local area (hotels full of jobless people, etc.)
I live in an affluent community and though I wince when I grocery shop these days, and I haven't even seen an undocumented immigrant standing outside the hardware store like I used to in the early 2000s, I have gay and trans friends and family members and am staunchly pro-choice and was disgusted by January 6th, so to me it's a no-brainer to vote for Kamala, but it's true that broke people vote for "the other guy". This happened with Bush Sr. too. One term.
But I do think a lot of people are sexist and/or racist, too. But I think even a generic whitey like Beshear would have had a tough time getting elected this year.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-08 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)This was about survival for a lot of us. I now have to decide if my home is safe anymore, and if it isn't, then I have to figure out how to move where it IS safe because I'm trans. I had to talk my just-as-trans partner out of killing himself when the results came in because we're both also disabled.
But all that matters to you is, "HAHA FUCK YOU PROGRESSIVES LET ME EAT MY OWN SHIT AND CALL IT AMBROSIA."
PEOPLE. ARE. GOING. TO. DIE. And you don't fucking care.
