American here, and I agree. The blinding white teeth are always unnerving to me.

My teeth have been straightened with braces, but they're not perfectly straight, square and blindingly white. IMO, that would look weird. But it's not just the whitening that's the issue, it's the veneers which look way too artificial.

+1. My teeth are pretty square and straight, but they are my teeth and you can tell they're natural. I can spot veneers from a mile away. Nine times out of ten, they look too big for the person's mouth too.

Can agree that when I watched "My Mad Fat Diary" I recall finding the male lead really attractive because his teeth didn't look perfectly aligned and blindly eggshell white.

I've always appreciated that Patricia Arquette didn't get her slight snaggle tooth straightened. It's really rare to see any public figure in America with not-so-perfect teeth.

They are very distracting (I am also american).

(Anonymous) 2024-11-21 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The worst are those weirdly overbleached teeth that are on the brink of actually looking blue-ish.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-21 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

It's especially bad when it's supposed to be set far back in the past or the person is supposed to be poor, yet they signal someone on the moon with their bright white teeth.

God yes. I don't ask to be too realistic (they had much less sugar anyway so it's sort of balances out), but glowing in the dark is just so distracting

I've never noticed actors' teeth that much.

I know straight teeth have long been super common in American media but thankfully I haven’t seen anything with actors who bleach their teeth. I don’t think I could stand to watch anything like that. I struggle with the horrible veneers of British actors as it is (looking at you, Fassbender).

It's ok, British teeth aren't the worst anymore. Look at Japanese teeth.

Lorraine Pascal is British and she has the whitest straightest teeth I ever saw.

Let me introduce you to the concepts of "majority", "usually", "customary"

let me introduce you to my middle finger.

Oh, so that's where Tom Scott got inspiration for having work done on his teeth.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. I hate that Trixie Mattel got those awful slightly too-big veneers when she could've just gotten her natural teeth whitened. And I had to look side-eye when she said her dentist came up to her after a show and said "it's time to talk about veneers." Mama. What??? I would've told that lady (dentist) "it's time to talk about finding a new dentist."

p.s. Trump's teeth are the pinnacle of gross, fake, way to old to have blinding white teeth!

The US has, on average, poorer dental health than Britain.

The thing is, Britain doesn't go in for cosmetic and often unnecessary shit like veneers and crowns and whatever anywhere near as often, so it lacks the uncanny uniformity, even often with celebrities.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
I mean crowns tho... the only crowns I've had have been necessary to stop a tooth from crumbling so like that's a lot different than veneers?

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I had braces for six years. I also needed a night brace and retainers. Sometimes you really need to extract and straighten teeth. It can cause problems with speaking, chewing, eating, and crowds of wonky teeth can cut up the insides of your cheeks.

OP

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I KNOW
I need braces mostly for cosmetic reasons (tooth has grown too high and looks short) but my friend has braces for medical reasons. It's just awful. And somehow there are new ways of being even more awful every time. After seeing everything she has to deal with I care for this less and less

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd avoid both

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Henry Cavill's teeth. It's one of the main reasons I find him much, much better looking than most American celebrities.

Sebastian Stan looked good until he got these massive veneers. There are very off-putting.

(Anonymous) 2024-11-22 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! He has such a lovely smile. Straight teeth but naturally looking so
