More and more I'm finding I'm holding my tongue on everything. I'll read a secret that shows some unflattering things about the way the secret maker thinks - you know, the POINT of secrets - and I'll feel the pull of saying ~exactly~ what I think of their reaction... and then a little voice chimes in the back of my head "Don't. You don't know what shit they got going on in their lives that this is the fantasy they've chosen to escape in to. You don't know what kind of bubble they're locked into that this seems normal or justified. You don't know if they even really believe the thing, maybe they're just signalling the tribe they think they should belong to to feel less alone".

And it makes me sad. And I don't end up saying anything.

Anyway, I hope living like this is in some small way making you happier than the alternatives. Because you DO have alternatives. And that's all I have in me to say about this secret.

Wow, it's interesting to think about how AI scifi characters will come across the more AI technology becomes part of daily life. I love sentient computer characters too, the trope is very fun in fiction. Did you ever play SOMA? It's a scifi horror game, I thought that was a neat AI story because an element of the horror is that the AI entity doesn't think or reason like a person and its actions can't be understood, it's kind of a nonentity, so while the story is fantastical it's closer to technology I can imagine being real.

I think fictional artificial intelligence is divorced enough from real life ai that most people can probably keep them separate? For now? IDK. I do feel something similar to this though, when I see people criticizing generative ai for reasons that are like, "ai = the death of art and the human spirit!" instead of any kind of serious take like, the fact that people are using it for malicious disinformation and mass production of godawful slop.

The modern problems from AI are so unrelated that I never thought about how robots in fiction would be changed...and I still don't think it's much different.

I find it a little weird when people get hyper-fixated on their OCs. Like by all means, you should love your own characters and enjoy bringing them to life and building their world. But once or twice I've seen people get waaaaaaaay into their OCs in a way that's reminiscent of fandom fixation on a canon character, only in the case of the OC, there is no canon except what exists inside your head? And nobody else shares your fixation because there's no context for this amazing character except in your fanart and "imagine if..." meta?

Weird.

You're a good friend to not tell your friend they're talking about something you don't care about.

Like, it's cool that your friend had something they're passionate about, but no one is obligated to be enthused about their OCs.

As an old-school freak that has been in the Sonic fandom since the late 90's/Early 2000's, It makes me sad to see that the Sonic fandom has been gentrified by Antis and bullies who want to santize fandom. Nowadays you can't ship Shadria,Sontails or whatever without some anti harassing you for shipping "incest" . Don't get me started on the age wank over the ages of the Sonic characters. Someone even argued that Metal Sonic, Chaos and Mephiles are "Kid- adjacent" . I blame the Sonic movies for the rise in age wank. Back in my day nobody really cared about how old the Sonic characters were. Everything was fair game back them.

Shockingly not immigration related today, at least not directly.

Buried in the budget bill the US House just passed is a clause making it impossible for courts to bring criminal charges against Trump or his government officials for anything, even violating the Constitution.
