Vacation

What are some of your favorite types of vacation to take? What sorts of things do you like to do on vacation?

I like active vacations, where I find a place and explore. I went to England for the first time last summer and walked all over London, rented an ebike to bike all over Cornwall, hiked a bunch of different trails, mixed in with a few down days where I just chilled in my rental or by the water.

I also like backpacking trips too.

I always hear about people going and just spending a week at the beach and am kind of jealous. I'm just not good at staying still.

I'm the opposite. I wish I had more energy. I had so many plans this last vacation, but I ended up resting most of the time. By the time I get on vacation, I'm usually exhausted and in need of a lot of relaxation.

I'd love to have the energy for more active vacations.

ayrt
I'm like that in day to day. Zero energy, can barely meal prep or get the gumption to do basic things. Travel just brings me alive in a way nothing else does. It gives me energy and I become this active social person. If I could figure out how to do it full time I'd be living as my best self.

The downside is I honestly am bad at not being active on vacation. It's like my every day life is zero energy Depression Mode and then I go full Manic when traveling.

DA
I am exactly the same. Day to day life? I need to drag myself through it. Weekends usually one manic one couch potato.
Vacation? Letssss goooooo. Staycation at home? There is a whole chance I am actually getting depressed.

I love a beach vacation. I just love being in the water, and especially in the ocean. Makes me happy.

I love a quiet vacation where not much is going on.

I do love to go to a place with a bunch of museums, especially history/nature/science museums. And zoos and aquariums.

I love a staycation where I just find a decent hotel nearby and just take a long weekend to decompress.

I love the beach but haven't been on a day trip out to it in AGES. There were a few years in my youth when I had a relative who lived on the beach and so we'd get to spend a week each summer with all the cousins, going down to wade out into the water or check out tidepools most days, go into the little town together to walk around and go into shops and such one day. Make s'mores over a beach bonfire... I'd really love to get to do something like that again but I do not have the money for it.

I do have a convention that I get a hotel room for the weekend of each year, though-- it's not far from home, but it's far enough that the hotel room is worth it, and I get to spend a weekend going between socializing and crashing in my room for a nap, taking pictures... swimming in the evenings (except this year when there was a lot of construction going on).

I feel you. Been quite a few years since I've been to the beach. I grew up on the beach, but now I don't live anywhere near one. Someday I'll get back to the beach.

I like vacations with lots of stuff to do as opposed to people who just want to veg out and not do anything

Honestly, I love staying in tourist places. I get people want authentic experiences, but not me. I just want to stay in a nice place, go to a museum or whatnot each day, get back to my room early, and watch something terrible on TV while I eat new food.

Or just going to a cabin for a long weekend. Or even a staycation. I'm boring, lol.

I like a vacation that has a mix. I need something to keep my brain occupied, so I like to go places with a lot of history or cultural significance, but I also need rest, so I schedule about a third to half of my vacation for doing nothing.

I like a mix of museums/historical stuff that's usually city-centered, and days that are more about exploring the country and beautiful landscapes. Either way, I like good food to be involved. On a long-ago trip to England, I spent 4-5 days in London hitting museums, the Tower, etc. and then a few days in the Cotswolds with side trips to Stonehenge and Avebury. If I'd had more time, I would've liked to go further and see Dartmoor and the Dorset coast, or Cornwall.

I haven't been on a good vacation for so many years. I am sad.
I love going to different countries and I need active ones (give me all the museums, all the theatres, all the sights) with maybe couple of days to decompress. I love sea, but I HATE beach vacations. No, I am not sitting with a fucking book, no, I am not going to a party, no I am not sitting in the sun and I am certainly not swimming. If I am at home on my vacation, at least I am doing stuff I had no time to do while working.
