Folklore Christmas cards

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Bit of a longshot here, I admit, but every year I used to get some Folklore Christmas/Yule cards from a company called Hedingham Fair, but it CTE earlier this year. Does anyone know where I could buy cards in the same style? Is any other company picking up the baton, do you know?

And is there anywhere else I could ask that might have a better idea?

Since they closed, it’s hard to know their style but Google did show a few examples. Google also had similar styles from other companies in the results so I’d start there.

Etsy would be the next logical place. You’ll need to use a lot of keywords to search and still be prepared to page forward many, many times to find anything. Etsy has been overrun with Temu and AI, to say nothing of the accounts that steal artwork from other listings/websites. Honest makers get shoved to the bottom of search results, unfortunately.

Postcrossing might help you out, they have a forum where you could ask people.
Since there are lots and lots of postcard writers and collectors on there, I'd be surprised if nobody could help you out! Good luck.

Blood Moon

Can you see it where you are? I see it faintly from my balcony.

Sadly, nope. And I missed the last one that was actually here.

As seems to be the trend when astronomical phenomena occur, it's overcast here. :(

I’m sure the clouds will return right before moonrise this evening, that’s how it always goes around here.

I saw the last three lunar eclipses, partial and full, so I'm good if it clouds up tonight.

all hail the corn moon, Mandaamini giizis! alas the corn was best about 2-3 weeks ago.

One Drive is one of the worst things ever

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Just spent an hour trying to get it unlinked from my computer without deleting all my shit.

Agreed. It is awful what computers have come to be.

Writers

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
What program (if any) do you use to write in?

Re: Writers

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Libre Office. I used to use Word when I had a product key but they got rid of those for paid subs, ugh, then I used Open Office but when it stopped being maintained I moved to Libre. It's Word-like without certain word functionalities but it works for what I need so I'm fine with it.

Scrivener

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I paid for it back when I was all gungho and optimistic about finishing NaNo. That old ADHD "if you get the shiny new toy it will definitely help you not flake out on the new hobby" mindset. Spoiler, it did not help and I did not finish NaNo XD

All that being said, I really do love it. I love all the organizational features. It makes it easy for me to work on different chapters and go back and forth and have it all in one file.

windows's notepad.exe, lmao (I also use it emulated on linux). I like not having any fancy options to distract myself with. I usually write everything in .txt and then on libre office I will modify font styles if I have to.
I also write a lot on VScodium. I have a blog and I write everything directly in html on notepad.exe or VScodium. Which I choose is highly dependent on my mood and hour. I have a dark theme on codium so if it's late I will usually write using that.

not a writer, but

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I just recently found out most people are writing fic and college essays and everything on their phones. I cannot imagine doing such a thing! Typing on my phone is so annoying, give me a full physical keyboard if I'm writing anything longer than a comment.

I also recently learned that a lot of newer writers (or the implication was it was only newer writers) on AO3 are writing their fic directly in the AO3 website and then getting annoyed or sad or mad if the site goes down and they lose all their work. Just wild.

I use Get Diz but windows renames it to "text editor" idek why. I can change paper colour, font type/size/colour and links become active links. It has many other bells and whistles but those are my reasons for preferring it.

Have any of you ever thought about bringing new blood here?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I fantasize about sharing specific secrets or just the comm as a whole to fandom communities. Like reddit or tumblr or something. Just to try and see if we can get new blood and new secrets and liven up the comm a bit.

And then I think about how many frustrating people or straight up trolls that might bring in and how our nice little community might turn into a fiery mess.

Re: Have any of you ever thought about bringing new blood here?

(Anonymous) 2025-09-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I say go for it. We’re always going to have some wank and trolling and could do with some fresh topics.

Apple season

(Anonymous) 2025-09-08 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
It's here.

I hate apples in every form. Even pies. Everything about them is distasteful to me.

And now we get to live through a month of instagrammable keeping-up-with-the-Joneses "candid" orchard photos. Gross.

I'm really happy it's almost fall, though!
